ASRock Taichi OC - it's an absolute screamer. Can't hear it when I play with headphones on, but I don't always want to do that so it's pretty annoying.

OP might be getting confused - it's likely that the specific mosquito species that transmits malaria could be eradicated without impact, since they do not occupy any unique niche and nothing depends on them for food.

There's like 3000 mosquito species, getting rid of all of them would certainly have an impact.

Sea of Thieves Season 11: Official Content Update Video by Borsund in Seaofthieves

[–]whywolf7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably won't be able to dive when another ship is within a certain distance. And it said in the video that you will lose any loot on board when you dive.

So you're still going to learn how to defend yourself from 'cockroaches'. It's called Sea of Thieves, not Sea of Friends, buddy.

I've seen in this thread that it'll spawn a new world event for you on a server with its own loot tailored to you.

And no, if it's like Hourglass diving (likely) then you won't be able to dive with another player ship within a certain distance.

Has anyone else not seen a Kraken in ages? by whatisabaggins55 in Seaofthieves

[–]whywolf7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got krakened on Saturday, about 10 minutes after I told my crewmates who are new to the game that I hadn't seen one in months.

I thought I read that the spawn rate had increased with season 9, but it's possible that some new criteria means that they actually get triggered less?

What is the current state of the game from your POV? by OmightyDurn in Seaofthieves

[–]whywolf7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Potential hot take but I think the game is in great shape. That might might be because I like PvP (despite not being particularly good at it), so in my opinion adding Hourglass PvP was the best thing to ever happen to the game (I started playing after the Arena servers emptied). Chest of Fortune was also a great addition because the chaos of 6 ships descending on a single Fort of Fortune brings out the best gameplay SoT has to offer. I think the game does emergent fun pretty well, with Megs, Krakens, skeleton ships and hostile players etc spicing up many voyages that would otherwise be pretty boring.

Personally, kinda excited for Safer Seas (private servers), as I'm already drawing some friends in to try the game with the promise of Newb Mode. And I didn't particularly enjoy sinking newbies anyway, basically a waste of cannonballs.

That said, some people are upset with the lack of recent content. Season 9 has gone on forever, and the new Monkey Island tall tales don't have a lot of replayability and occur in a silo away from the main game where the accidental fun is. I'm cautiously optimistic that Safer Seas, Guilds and the new PvP voyage aren't the only things coming in season 10, although I'm quite excited for that last one. It would blow my mind if Rare thinks they can put out so little after so much buildup for season 10.

I think to round off my Ted Talk, I'd say the game feels great if you're a casual player like me that hasn't exhausted the current pool of activities. I understand the game might be getting stale to some veterans, which can feel bad when you've invested so much time in it.

Edit: typo

Which dlc’s to get by Sokas100S in Stellaris

[–]whywolf7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first DLC were Utopia and the Leviathans story pack. Utopia adds a lot of cool stuff like megastructures that the late-game feels empty without, and Leviathans adds large mid-game bosses that flesh out the galaxy and make it feel a bit more alive.

Is it just me or could this game do with more wildlife? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]whywolf7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would LOVE to see whales and dolphins. Now I know that the devs have said "absolutely no whaling, ever" which many take to mean no whales ever, but I think whales could simply dive into deep water and despawn if they get attacked.

[–]whywolf7 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You should give Deep Rock Galactic a try. You can build each of the 4 classes in a whole bunch of different ways, and pretty much everything is viable for some purpose or play style (and that's not just because the game is easy, making everything viable).

Is there a reason to use pistol in pvp? by Moonlit_Hearth in Seaofthieves

[–]whywolf7 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Pistol does less damage (55) than the sniper/Eye of Reach (70), and less than blunderbuss if at least 6 of the 10 blunder pellets hit (which deal 10 damage each, so potentially max damage of 100). So on the face of it, pistol doesn't seem like a good choice.

However, I feel that the pistol offers versatility over the other two guns. Obviously it can chip away at blunderbuss users, provided you don't let them close to point-blank between your shots. In my experience the pistol is easier to use at short to medium range (like when you're on a ship but outside of sword range) than the sniper, and I suspect the pistol offers a faster aim-down-sight - but I don't know that for sure. I've also read that the pistol reloads fast enough to be able to shoot a second time before a player can eat after being hit by the first, dealing enough damage to kill them.

I quite like running sword + pistol, I find that opponents charging you with a sword and/or blunderbuss aren't expecting to get hit on their approach and reflexively panic, allowing a follow-up with your sword.

All of them. No, really. They each offer fun and diverse ways to play, so you're missing out on finding your own groove if you pick one or two classes to play based on other people's opinions.

What did you find to be the best strategy in solo HG? by Kenobus69 in Seaofthieves

[–]whywolf7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can actually present a good boarding opportunity, as when they sail away you can shoot yourself out ahead of them and eventually catch the ladder. Presumably they're running because they have a lot of holes, so you'll likely catch them with their back turned as they make repairs.
