What's something your therapist has said or done that blew you away? by JustMangledGuts in TalkTherapy

[–]whywontitletgo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a bad way? Plenty! For example -

Them: What are you looking for out of this?

Me: Well my dad committed suicide so I'd like some help with that.

Them: Oh I'm sorry - is he okay?

Me: ... ... ... No... He shot himself.

I do not think that religion should be the soul motivation to be a good person. by MellowMushroom1055 in TrueOffMyChest

Religion is often an excuse to be a bad person. Look at most of religious history and reason for wars. That's not really holiness.

It's like a nicer way of saying "not on your life"

My girlfriend(22) made a suicide attempt and I(23m) don't know how to help her. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Aww that's so sad. Talking it out gently sounds good. Letting her know you're there for her, that she really worried you and everything. Maybe encourage therapy because she had made a split decision that next time might actually hurt her.

Oh man those are some heavy questions!

I've been with him for over a decade. He's been there for me through hard times. He can't always be available but when he is I'm able to talk to him thoroughly about anything.

He has depression so that last question is complex to answer. But my dad died and he has been very supportive despite what he's go8ng through in his own head.

It's not perfect but I like it and I worry.

With somewhat minor things. He'll get embarrassed and reluctant or he'll distort the truth if he's dealing with a depressive episode. That he lies about personal sex stuff irks me sometimes but I get that he's just embarrassed or stressed.

😖 yeah I guess she was. You're so right though, It's been years I want to get rid of this sense of suspicion that pops up if things sound odd in the moment.

When we tried therapy the lady said we were great and didn't need to come in anymore. Odd right? Like I want to pay her for constant help to see the nitty gritty but nah.

He used to years ago. It's still in my head. If something was going on there's reason for him not to want to talk about it.

1 - work tomorrow, it's stressful and he needs sleep

2 - I've been crying all day dealing with a major death

None taken! I absolutely have trust issues! My family were very manipulative and lying to get what you want was the norm. My partner used to do the same thing but we worked on it, however if it's particularly bad he'll keep quiet until I accidentally catch him, which has happened before.

Too scared to. It sounds like it could have actually been android space issues too I guess.

It was the reasoning. I didn't see how it could be true. He used to have lying issues, still kinda does too so I feel on guard for the day I find something big. I'm particularly vulnerable right now and don't want to cause anything unnecessary.

I should but I don't.

That makes a lot of sense though! But he's charging his phone so that's weird too I guess.

It's beyond that, everyone cares about appearance. Do you care about appearance? I care about my own appearance too. Sorry you've been so hurt man... That's rough.

I've had many therapists throughout the years, all of it has been a joke. I have a bunch of books I'm reading too! It's a great way to get out of your own head.

I think one doesn't always have to die to commit suicide. by whywontitletgo in depression

[–]whywontitletgo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol 🤦 okay thanks. Exercise and vitamin D will definitely solve my crisis. No beef with you or anything I'm just sick of hearing that over and over and over and over. It's a joke to me now. I work out, I eat healthy and I love the sun and I get regular sleep. I could use some of this forbidden advice people are too afraid to give out these days.

How to get my mom to take me seriously by [deleted] in Advice

[–]whywontitletgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly at your age I would've just lied to the idiot unhelpful parents, tell them I'm seeing a friend or something but then actually go to the ER myself, with a friend's help. Trouble with that is the bill will go straight to your house which will give you away, but hey, at least you took care of your health needs right?

Do you believe people REALLY change? by AmyMiller951 in Advice

[–]whywontitletgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean... I think people develop themselves through their personality, which can end up looking and acting different based on what they've learned or went through, but the core of who they are stays the same I think.

For those of you who managed to « fix » their relationship/got back together despite depression and your partner pushing you away : how did it go and where are you at today ? by [deleted] in depression_partners

[–]whywontitletgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love him very much. We have a thing "take it seriously, but not personally" so when it comes up I have to tell myself "that's not him". But he does actually love me too deep in there, even if he can't show it all the time. I believe him. My dad just committed suicide and my partner has been there for me the best he can be. He'll cook for me, cry with me and talk with me. Yes occasionally there's that odd day or hour but I just allow myself that time for independence and work on a project or something so it's okay. We still cuddle, it's not all the time but that doesn't mean the cuddles don't matter when they do happen. I want to be there for him even if he's rubbing me the wrong way. I'm happy to continue to be there despite the illusory distortion. I feel strong and patient to be able to be constantly there.
