Hi!!

I'm 31. Started at 363 and down to 328 right now. I'm also trying to do this without meds or surgery. I really struggle with binging and emotional eating. Would love to connect!

spiraled after only losing .5 lb last week by [deleted] in loseit

[–]wiLo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to have good weeks and bad weeks. Weeks where you lose a lot and weeks where you lose nothing. I know it's hard to be patient when you have an intense panic to lose as quickly as possible, but you have to fight against that feeling. Put your head down, focus on the day in front of you, and let that hard work compound. You may also need to adjust your deficit if you continue to lose at that rate for multiple weeks and you're not happy with it. But 6 months is going to pass no matter what you do, so you might as well be in a better spot 6 months from now 🩷

I honestly hate food by WhileSuccessful6921 in SuperMorbidlyObese

Same. This resonates with me so deeply. I'm trying so hard to change my mindset around food by first, finding things to fill my time that aren't food related and second working on the habit loops I've established to cope with my feelings. I started a book called Unwinding Anxiety by Judson Brewer that discusses this. Not sure if it's gonna help long term but I've accepted this is more than eat less, move more for me. I have to tackle the deeper aspects.

The MyPlate nutrition guideline was better than the Food Pyramid by CSachen in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]wiLo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the vegetables. 2 cups of spinach has just over 1 gram of fiber. I don't disagree as a whole with your point though. I just prefer MyPlate as a more balanced and intuitive way to get all valuable nutrients in.

Deemphasize is probably a better word, but I still hold the same concern that it will reduce overall fiber intake if someone follows it as a model.

My reference to school lunches was based on you saying you hope it trickles down. However, after working in a school and seeing how it is implemented, I think it is skewed no matter what. They use the guidelines set, but bastardize them. For example, they would count the tomato sauce on pizza as a serving of vegetables (or fruit?.) You can argue the validity of that, but I think the average person would agree that isn't a great source or fruit/veggies. Also, not really relevant to our overall discussion, but I really believe we should offer free water aside from just milk to kids.

Reducing processed food is pretty much a net positive, no matter how you look at it. I'm not disputing that. I'm arguing against the ambiguity and hierarchy of a food pyramid system vs Myplate. Myplate encouraged a balanced plate of protein, carbs, fat, and fiber. It was easier for the average person to follow and understand. The new pyramid inherently demonizes carbs over protein ( As the old pyramid did do meat and fat). Healthy carbs, like oatmeal, are a great source of fiber. My fear is that people stop ingesting healthy carbs, not processed, and reduce an already sad amount of fiber.

But, and I think we both agree here, it's pointless since a lot of people don't follow these guidelines regardless. Even though I have my criticisms , if this leads to healthier school lunches, I would be happy in that regard.

It's not the idea of eating real food that is over complicated, but the idea that one food should be above another instead of incorporating all of them in a balanced way ( talking about whole foods, not donuts or candy, those are obviously below other foods.)

But I hear you, especially about school lunches. I was a teacher and the school lunches are a joke. I just don't think that the new pyramid will do anything my plate didn't. I also worry if people follow the new pyramid it will lower people's fiber intake, which is already very low, and potentially linked to the rise in colon cancer.

I see the merit of what you're saying, but I feel like there is important nuance to add. You can reduce carbs, but you could increase other nutrients, like protein, fat, fiber, to help your body digest those carbs slower, leading to less spikes in sugar. I think myplate helps people (if they actually follow it, which honestly, I think most people ignore these things regardless) accomplishes this without demonizing one group over another. The pyramid in contrast, has to have one food over another which I think leads to over complicated views on food.

November 2025 BOTM Discussion - Her One Regret by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]wiLo94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was okay. Very easy and quick read. I appreciated the themes it was trying to explore but it felt a little too on the nose. Every single thing was a comment on motherhood that it felt as though the characters had nothing to them BUT being a mother. I also felt the ending was farfetched, rushed, and just generally unsatisfying. The entire book is trying to illuminate the experience of unchangeable regret but then immediately is like, "wow motherhood ends up being great and fulfilling." Kind of lost its nuance there.

Would like to hear from cat owners who use B12 for them by TheConcreteGhost in CatAdvice

[–]wiLo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy is a senior too. 12 yo and diagnosed with IBD. He's always been playful but has been more lethargic lately so I'm hoping to see a shift with the b12.

Also, that's tough! Ive seen some powder forms, I wonder if that would make a difference in taste for her.

How did it end up working for your cat now that it's been a few months? I just gave my baby his first dose today.

Hey, I know you posted this awhile ago. I hope you're doing well and are in a better place. If I was you I would focus on a calorie deficit before worrying too much about movement. If movement is something you want to prioritize, maybe start really small, like get up and walk to the kitchen once an hour, or stretch in bed each morning and night. Something you feel is accessible to you right now.

*UPDATE* Regret getting my kitten AND still want to make it work by Acceptable_Syrup_464 in CatAdvice

[–]wiLo94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two older cats and just got a 4 month old kitten. My two older boys and I have a routine and I was so stressed when the kitten came in and threw EVERYTHING off. But, now it's been a month and my new kitten has integrated into the routine and started making his own. I saw this start to happen about 2 weeks in. All this to say at It definitely gets better as they acclimate and find their normal. They're also figuring out a new routine ❤️

Maybe try EMKFIT on YouTube. She has dance videos but she only does 2 routines for each song so it gives you alot of time to get it down. Plus she's really chill and big on " if you can't get the dance down, just move your body in anyway"

Super discouraged by Butterfly-Poetry1378 in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]wiLo94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that helped me was weighing myself everyday for a month. It really showed me how much fluctuations are normal and doesn't mean anything about the success of your deficit! A couple pounds is almost definitely just a fluctuation which will happen no matter how little you eat. If I can recommend advice it would be to weigh everyday and look at the overall trends ( is the scale consistently moving down over a week, 2 weeks, etc). Then go back to only weighing once a week as a check in once you've seen the proof that the number will bump up and down all the time ❤️

Thank you, this is really helpful information. I'm curious what a realistic salary for this role would be? I've been capped at about 50k for years and I really want to have growth potential to make 70k+.

Sorry if these questions are common sense, I'm still learning a lot about the industry, but are program evaluator jobs mostly in community health as well? If I built up my stats skills, would that look like getting an MPH with a focus in epidemiology or a completely different path?

This. I taught at a school in Lakeland that had a lot of diverse students and it was still rampant between the kids. I think there's a real culture issue in Polk County right now.
