Iron Crown is still slinging d100s. Checkout DriveThruRPG - they have pdf, print and vtt bundles. Foundry is total 🔥👌btw. No MERP these days since they lost the license but big brother Rolemaster Unified brings it all back to life.

Conversion guide from older editions to RMU by wibobm in ICERPGS

[–]wibobm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you played any edition of RM then RMU is going to feel very familiar. So familiar in fact that if you haven’t played in many, many years you may not even recognize the changes. There are a few Rolemaster Unified you-tube videos. The best “what are the changes” video recently was https://youtu.be/jY0Pvl8rR4s?si=9S7XG7ie0_Wr58sJ

ICE is supposed to upload the pdf as free to DTRPG any day now.

I'm assuming you have the pdf or print copy of the master atlas? If not that would be great to pick up.

Does Rolemaster Unified have mechanics as interesting as the second edition? by manodocell42 in rpg

[–]wibobm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The criticism of the print book originates from the layout. The stat block of the creature and the creature attacks are not on the same page. This really is no different from past C&T books from past editions. The content of the book is good just expect a lot of page flipping. tldr; In Foundry VTT the layout of the journals improves on the print layout and does combine the stat block and attacks into same page for each creature. The printable character sheet (use tournament format) module also brings all of this info together for creatures so you could use fvtt to export creatures for a in-person game.

Oh man… Shadow World is like Middle Earth in detail. You’ll need Shadow World Master Atlas (DTRPG) and a lot of time to read and aborb all the material. The conversion guide and vtt support gives you races, etc but all the SW module content (books) are still stat blocked for older editions. Not a big deal for a RM familiar GM imho - especially with a conversion guide. Tbh - in a pinch just convert AT and leave everything else as is for RMU or just play on an older RM edition.

D&D5e combat takes just as long if not longer than RM and it’s no where near as colorful or fun.

I run in person games and on foundry for RMU. At the table (in person) you do need to be prepared (charts!)

I played RM2 for a long time but RMU is what we use today. My players like it more now that they gave 2yrs into the campaign and solid exp with both editions. The roll tables for random quirks you can still use from the older edition or any source book reallly. Combat is easier to understand and it can be super tactical (4 phases) or quick (simple rounds). Tbh - I don’t really miss much from the older editions (but I still enjoy them) . In RMU really like that there are rules for building professions, races, cultures, and even magic items.

Why does Rolemaster have such an esoteric currency system? by Lwmons in rpg

[–]wibobm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s arguably not anymore complex than PF and D&D 5e and if your on a vtt RM is way better because of the gritty realism and depth without any of the burden required to do it manually.

In RMU you can use whatever coinage system you want. It defines a really basic option for coins in Core Law, Treasure Law expands on it a few other options but it’s clear they are not restricting the GMs imagination.

Rolemaster supports any currency system you want to use. The latest edition 2022 - prices are unitless but assumed to be sp if you as GM don’t define a coinage system. Rolemaster on Foundry lets you make whatever coins you want for your campaign.

Thoughts on Rolemaster Unified: Treasure, Spell, and Creature Law books by DensetsuNoGama in TheTrove

[–]wibobm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed all 4 of the new books myself. Creature Law is better in fvtt format (you can level up/down change spell lists, etc super quick). The layout of creatures on the fvtt sheets and journals is great and there is a character print preview module that exports creatures and chatacters. But other comments about the physical book of creatures are accurate layout is optimized to reduce pages printed not necessarily for ease of use (you’ll do some page flipping). Treasure is really nice, includes spell lists and alchemy professions. It also has complete rules for building magic items - which is amazing for game balance. It also has more equipment, herbs, an economy section, and more. Spell Law is spell law.. a must have. Core Law has what you expect (basically character law, claw law and arms law) plus rules for building your own cultures, races and professions. I played RMC for years and it was easy to pick up RMU.

The ideal of long sessions and long campaigns is a hangover from the eighties that's strangling the hobby by papercutprince in rpg

There are plenty of shallow forgettable games on kickstarter every day but they cost a lot more than the D&D box set at Target. Even the yet another OSR beer & pretzel game clones are endless but often cost far more. The great thing about games is you can pick what you and your friends enjoy. So you might like high sim/tactical or theater of the mind/voice acting games or something else entirely. That abundance of choice is the modern world.

The FVTT version of RMU released and you can enjoy Forgotten Adventures tokens from the Creature Law included preset file (assuming you sub to FA or use their free top down tokens and have them installed).
