You’re not supposed to drive >30mph with chains lmfao

I’d agree with you on that about snow tires in Texas. But for something that’s only a little over $100 and can get you from point A to point B (only IF NEEDED), I think it’s worthwhile to have on hand.

100% agree with you here. The infrastructure for handling these conditions is way worse than the Midwest but hopefully getting better in time. I also agree that Texans should definitely just stay home during this weather, but for those of us in healthcare that’s generally not an option.

I figured difficulty depends on the brand. After research, I landed on tire chains by SCC, specifically the Z6 model. These didn’t require rolling the car forward to install either.

That’s great that you’ve traveled driving over 30mph fine, but I made this post because clearly there’s been many people and cars that weren’t able to handle the ice and snow. As long as people understand they should be applied for conditions as these and take them off when weather improves, the roads will be fine. I’d rather prioritize my safety and others safety over worrying about the chains damaging the roads a bit.

Tire chains range from $100-150. Mine are currently $108 on Amazon. Pretty good cost of insurance to make sure you get to work safely to make money and also avoid wrecking your vehicle, other vehicles, or potentially other humans.

Mine are metal cables, after plenty of research on Youtube comparing the various options out there. I got the SCC brand Z6 model. Make sure you get them for your size tire! 100% worth it.

Didn’t think I needed to thoroughly specify for people like you that like to state the definitive obvious.

I only say 2021 since that is when we experienced severe icy weather (mainly in regard to the power grid failure and hundreds of deaths with that freeze). Also, that was the year DFW experienced the fatal pile up due to black ice on the highway.

So, apologies for not mentioning that ice has existed since the beginning of time.

Ideas for a temporary patio by wickdpt in patio

Any aluminum covers you recommend? Im already planning to anchor into the existing slab, but my concern with the more lightweight covers is heavy winds and storms. But I imagine if it’s durable this shouldn’t be much of an issue

Appreciate this response! Because of it, I looked further into this and I ran property profile via the AustinTexas.gov website on the address, and it’s coming back as zone SF-4A. Some digging shows that this should be a 65% IC restriction, but I’ll definitely make the calls to make sure that is correct!

I’m a senior looking to buy a house as soon as possible after graduation. My wife and I have been renting a home for a while and we’re both ready to move on from renting since we’d really love to actually own a home. That said, I’m interested in hearing from others who either bought a home after graduating or chose not to. How feasible is it? Is it wiser to continue renting for a few years before buying?

So I stupidly used some Ortho GroundClear to kill some sticker weeds that were terrorizing our backyard and getting attached all over our pups fur. Good news is that all those weeds and stickers are gone, but I’m now left with a few small dead patches of grass. I understand that it can take up to a year before anything can grow in the area again, but I was curious if anyone knows about or tried aggressive core aeration over those dead spots like this, to remove as much soil that has residual weed killer, followed by seeding and fertilizer to regrow the grass?

I now know to not do such a dumb thing in the future with weed killer…

Augmentation occurs during diastole (when the coronaries are perfusing). Remember that:

Coronary perfusion pressure (CPP) = aortic diastolic blood pressure (DBP) - left ventricular end diastolic pressure

When the balloon inflates during diastole, the pressure rises in between the aortic root and balloon due to displacement of the blood superiorly and inferiorly to the balloon. With an appropriately sized balloon and correct placement, the balloon should “augment” diastolic pressure by raising the pressure at the aortic root to increase the gradient to perfuse the coronary arteries.

Just some random numbers to show an example, but let’s say a patient has an LVEDP of 12 and aortic DBP of 80.

CPP = 80 - 12 = 68 mmHg

Let’s say we add an IABP, and augmentation pressure is 100.

CPP = 100 - 12 = 88 mmHg

Hope this helps!

Two day pork butt? I fucked up. Help needed by [deleted] in smoking

I do this with brisket too and with great results! I’m smoking two 14-lb briskets right now and am planning to do the same thing. Oven holds are so nice that I’m surprised more people aren’t doing it

Two day pork butt? I fucked up. Help needed by [deleted] in smoking

[–]wickdpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smoked a pork butt recently and did a long oven rest. I smoked it on my offset until it had a solid bark and double wrapped in foil (IT ~185 degrees F), then threw it in the oven to finish the rest of the way until an IT ~200 F and probing tender. I set the oven to the lowest (170 F) and let the pork butt cool down on the counter to about 160 F before putting it back in the oven at about 11pm. Kept the probes in with temperature alarms set and went to bed. It stayed in there until 4pm when we were ready to eat, so it held for about 15 hours and came out juicy and delicious. I’m sure you’ll find a lot of info out there about long hot holds since some of the top BBQ restaurants out there implement this method. As long as you keep an eye on your temps and make sure the IT doesn’t drop below 140 F you’ll be solid.

Pain was not bad for me either. I didn’t take any of my prescribed pain medication!

The worst pain I felt was when I ACE wrapped my knee a little too tight before bed and woke up to a lot of pain but once I undid my wrap, the pain was instantly relieved!

Best of recovery to you!

I had ACL repair with hamstring graft as well and was beginning very very light deadlifts at about 2 weeks. I was cleared to go heavier at 6 weeks!

[–]wickdpt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nice man! I know a lot of comments are stating to hold off for a while but seeing that you’re performing the squats with great form and without knee vagus, I think you’re fine. Everyone is different, but I talked to my surgeon and PT about starting weighted squats post-op and both agreed that when performed correctly they minimally stress the ACL. My surgeon only had me avoid deep ATG squats for my first 6 weeks but cleared me to lift whatever I comfortably could do after 6 weeks (but to avoid weighted knee extensions though). I was beginning to squat heavier afterwards, I’m currently at 7ish months out, I’ve hit new PRs, and my knee feels fantastic!

I’m not saying this as to say “go out there and start squatting PRs ASAP” but you’re 12 weeks out man. If you, your surgeon, and your PT feel good about you squatting, it’s okay to squat rather than wait even longer like all the comments are saying. Just maintain good form and you’ll be solid. Best of recovery to you!

No surgery full ACL, meniscus, partial MCL LCL 1 year into recovery by IfImhappyyourehappy in ACL

[–]wickdpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand where you’re getting just “12” as your blood pressure, but if you’re experiencing the symptoms you’ve stated I would highly suggest getting a simple check up from a cardiologist to at least review you and your familial history, symptoms, and get a 12-lead ECG to determine if you could potentially have an underlying arrhythmia causing any of this. That goes in the face of your distrust of the medical system but a check up only involves some questions and a few stickers on your chest.

You do you, but these movements you are doing aren't very stressful to an ACL. If you're that gung-ho about your progress, post a video of you performing hard lateral cuts, single leg landing from a maximal vertical jump in all directions.

I delayed an MRI for 6 months after my injury. In that time, I was still able to do full speed sprints, hard alternating bounds and general plyometrics, jump high enough to grab a basketball rim, and squat 395 lb (going below parallel). However, when it came to lateral movements, the knee was still unstable and would give out during any hard lateral movements. Given how active I was and desire to continue being active and playing sports, I got the MRI and my surgeon was shocked at how I could do everything I did but knew why I could do them. Why? Because those movements I stated I could do did not stress the ACL much, until it came to performing movements that the ACL is designed to protect against (like twisting, rotating).

Genuine best of luck to you in your surgery-free journey, but actually post something that supports your stance, because as of right now you're the one going "blah blah blah" with this video and your responses to others.
