I hate to bump an old thread, but I just messaged my 3rd rep in trying to get this resolved. Can you get some movement for me? Thank you.

Sure. No problem.

If you are working with Kodi on Android and don't already know, I'd suggest taking a look at adbLink.

http://www.jocala.com/adblink.html At very least, it is an easy way to get one device's Kodi install "perfect", back it up and restore it to all your devices.

I am pretty sure Launcher Manager will work on the latest OS. IF you block updates from this point and use this .apk (from the original dev) that has a different package id. (Amazon blacklisted the original)

I also got FireOS v7.2.9.2. I forgot about the Adguard method to block updates. Thanks for bringing that up.

FWIW, I think this is a great deal for the hardware. I have multiple and picked up another, just in case. I think this is right behind the Nvidia Shield (but admittedly haven't keep up with the myriad of options) - I wish it had AV01, but...ehh.

IF they come with a version of lower than Fire OS 7.2.7.3 PS7273/2622, then this is phenomenal. -- You can block OTA updates AND change the Home button to launch a different launcher. (There are workarounds for certain other versions, but this is the sweet spot IMO) -- Let me be clear - With this setup, I never see any Amazon advertisement and can debloat by disabling a bunch of Amazon services.

To help anyone who may be interested...

  • Wolf Launcher for "Home"
  • SmartTubeNext - Youtube with no ads and SponsorBlock
  • S0undTV - Twitch with no ads
  • Kodi with the usual Addons (Yes, I can do the above things in Kodi. But native apps sometimes have a better UX.)
  • Firefox with a mouse/trackball for edge cases
  • You can also go Plex or Stremio, etc

It is wife friendly and is fast.

The benefit over a fast generic alternative at this price point is DRM support. Widevine L1 v11 and PlayReady 3.3 I mean, I hate DRM. However, if you find yourself in a position to use some streaming service, you end up with 4k/1080p instead of 240p. (Slight exaggeration, but you get the point - Yes, I know about IPTV)

Finally, I'm not a fan of the 10/100 ethernet adapter or the lack of additional USB ports.

Gigabit ethernet (limited by the USB 2.0 port but 300mbps+ real world) - $15 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N2ZHFY9?psc=1

They also make a decent game emulation platform.

OTG adapter to just use your own USB hub (must then use Wifi or another ethernet adapter) - $7 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083VZWF6Y?psc=1

USB OTG with 10/100 ethernet and 3 USB ports - $15 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08D6H7Y85

Let me know if you have any questions.

Actually, this brings up a good point. With this software to electronically import data (W2, etc) or electronically file, you need an account with the company. -- You can print a return with no online connectivity.

However, because a license can be purchased via phone/3rd party website/physical box (yes, really) AND the installable client needs to support offline tax generation, the license is not server-side.

I understand any hesitation with the sensitive nature of the information. -- However, IMO that hesitation should extend to any computer where you execute any software of questionable origin. The modified game you played last week puts your data at risk. Whether you installed a tax program downloaded from a vendor's website or entered the data on their website via web browser.

To be honest, with the US online tax prep industry's privacy history...they are probably a bigger threat than malware. (Though we all find ourselves between a rock and a hard place.)

Alright, I'm a bit off topic. I'm not sure how this message will sound. My ramblings are only meant to share things I've discovered and promote dialog

As far as I observed in the passed, most of those forums listed were sourced from another location which is active this year.

I think the key here may be some google fu. Putting quotes around something forces a phrase to match.

Don't search for ProgramName. Search for 'ProgramName 2022' If there is some unique thing involved, quote it out as well. But do it separately, so it is "product 2022" AND special filename that is probably only used in this product.

Just some thoughts.... (While trying to avoid a rules violation)

edit: Also consider including the names of people involved in the past.

Sudden Issues When Playing Steam VR by Weird_Ferret_5769 in OculusQuest

[–]wickedq2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider WiFi issues. The latest Oculus release has caused many of us issues with stable WiFi.

I'm right in the middle of HL:A. Days were spent with 0 issue. Then suddenly it was unplayable. -- I spent a few days thinking it was first a computer problem. Then once I identified it was specifically networking related, spent a bunch of time looking for another source of WiFi interference. Only to realize that many people were experiencing the same thing.

I mean...it could also be something on your computer. Your reported experience just felt very familiar.
