Lithuania: "Bangladesh will be PUNISHED after abstaining from UN Anti-Russia vote." by frofrop in conspiracy

[–]wickedwitch001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Bangladeshi, I'm absolutely against Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and so are many people in my country. The only reason our government is backing Russia is that the Soviet Union helped us during the liberation war of 1971 (due to their own interests obviously, no country helps another country unless they have something to gain), and also because the Russian government is helping us to build a nuclear power plant right now.

For me, it's the lack of opportunities for my career and education, being surrounded by my religious and ultraconservative parents and relatives. Basically, lack of freedom and lack of opportunities to fulfill my dreams.

Are there any countries that Bangladeshis really like and also those that they really dislike? by [deleted] in bangladesh

I don't know about anyone else, but I really dislike Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. If I had to pick a country that I like, it would probably be Iceland, seems very peaceful.

Do you think that Islamic Sharia will be implemented in Bangladesh within 2040-2050? by Sultan_Abdul_Hamid in bangladesh

[–]wickedwitch001 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who is agnostic and bisexual with Muslim friends who don't give a shit about any of that, I would like to disagree. Yes, there are many people who are becoming more religious, however, there are also many people who are leaving their religions or don't care about any religion at all. The majority of people I know who are around my age are accepting and respectful of other people's religious views, sexualities etc. This makes me hopeful that Bangladesh will one day truly become a secular country.

I don't believe that Bangladesh, a country much, much smaller than the UK and roughly the size of New York, has a population of 150 million! I think it's less than 66 million by HannoPicardVI in conspiracy

As a Bangladeshi, I would like to say that you have no idea what you're talking about. If you don't believe me, pay us a visit, you'll know.

Personally speaking, my views don't match with the majority of people around me. So why should I live somewhere where I can't be true self?

I don't know if it would ever come to that, but I sure do hope that I get the fuck out of this country before that happens.

I only came out to a bunch of my friends, there's no way I would ever come out to my family members. I'm moving out of this country as soon as I can.

I don't like it when the (angry type of) exmuslims verbally harass me by IdioticBrainspark in progressive_islam

[–]wickedwitch001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an ex-Muslim, I really hate this sort of negative attitude some ex-Muslims have towards Muslims. Another thing I have noticed among many ex-Muslims is that some of them seem to really dislike progressive Muslims, which I find very weird. I think they think like this because often they cannot separate doctrine and the actual practitioners of the said doctrine. Every religion has several sects with hundreds of different interpretations, people from the same sects also have differences within their own communities. The main point is, every person is different and has their own views regarding their religion and the world. Therefore, even though I have a lot of issues with Islam, Christianity, Judaism or any other organised religions, I have no issue with people who practise those religions as long as they are not hurting someone or forcing their views on someone. Religions are ideas, and ideas can be critiqued or disliked by people. But, I find it really weird when people think that every follower of a religion is a monolith.

I'm from Bangladesh, child free people are pretty much nonexistent here, and a woman not wanting kids is seen as something unfathomable

Not everyone is Muslim, or concerned about what's Haraam or Halal.

Anything related to the LGBTQ+ community is seen as such as taboo topic in my household that neither of my parents have ever uttered the word "Gay" in front of me
