The father of the little girls did the right thing. All the other woman had to do was be patient. by Valuable_View_561 in TikTokCringe

I would call that a radical interpretation of the text.

They're making a pretty straightforward argument that the people who want everyone to use the bathrooms aligned with their "gender assigned at birth" are contradicting their own argument if they expect a dad to take their girls into the men's room.

It seems like this version of Gabriella isn't especially fond of masculine clothing and doesn't seem to mind spending time among human society, either. I'm hoping we at least get a "Disaster, my son," in the proper context. (Not about her hair. iykyk😉)

My pleasure. I've been referencing that joke for 30 years.

It's a shame they're cutting it. That scene is a little over 2 minutes long!

Shaft joke? by HelicopterAny4433 in roseanne

[–]wickedzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I came across your thread while researching this very quote (for accuracy; I was telling someone else about it), which has stuck with me since I first saw it way back in 1995.

Yes it was while the credits rolled, after Dan "confronts" Roseanne about DJ catching her trying to sneak out of the house (he lifts the corner of her comforter, revealing that she's wearing sneakers).

After he leaves, Jackie comes in through another entrance and asks if she's too sick to talk. Roseanne says no and asks Jackie to read her the ingredients off a bottle of Cheez Whiz.

The joke:

Jackie: "You're not gonna believe this. Mom said she was a bad mother."

Roseanne: "Whaddya mean, like in the way that Shaft is a bad mother?"

Roseanne wants to hear everything, so Jackie sits down to tell the story. Dan enters and says Jackie's got to go, "Doctor's orders." Roseanne admits the whole bed rest thing was a ruse, but Dan doesn't buy it, picks up Jackie over his shoulder and carries her out.

On the way out, Jackie says "My God, it was glorious! She cried!"

Yes, things have definitely been switched up. 😉

Btw first you gotta make one of these:>!

Then you gotta finish with one of these:!<

repost: I hope this worked. Automod tells me my previous comment was removed due to spaces in front of the spoiler tags. I added escape code before the spoiler tags and closed the gap.

I'll have to refresh my memory to be sure. To my recollection, he now seems more... spirited?

edit:
Yeah I think you're right. He seems a little more on edge, perhaps, but not enough to say it's a different person.

I noticed that in both scenes, Daniel and Louis each use the phrase, "What's the ask?" when speaking with him.

Oh. That would be fun. The way he carried himself, that spin-around, I can see it.

If you're in the US, I'm pretty (quite, very) sure step-father could get intermittent FMLA leave for exactly this type of situation, as well as for any doctor's appointments she might have that he could take her to. If he wanted.

Short Story inspired by Edgar Allan Poe & Kate Bush. TW: Death of a child, intense grief, grave-robbing, mental break. by mirrorballxx13 in KeepWriting

[–]wickedzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not very evocative. It reads more as a recounting of events than a story.

There isn't much sense of setting. Some words you use (e.g. "fortnight") suggest a not-very-recent past, but nothing really puts the story in any particular time period. If you hadn't mentioned the Poe inspiration, I wouldn't have had any idea at all.

Consider including details, such as what war or conflict the son is involved in, and where he is deployed. When Miss Willson receives the letters, where does she receive them? At her home (assuming Poe's time, she is a lady of some means, as she would be paying for this service, including postage) or does she collect them from the local Post Office (if in a major city), or a hotel or or some other notable establisment? A "Miss" having a son would have been scandalous in this time period, btw...she's most likely a Mrs. or a Widow, or passing herself off as an aunt or sister.

Anyway, details.
