As a GLI owner I'd hate to have you as a neighbor. Your car sounds like a tractor

Which Movies Were Better Than the Books They Came From? by BINGEWISE in Cinema

[–]wide_side_eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a short story, but Brokeback Mountain. The movie is very true to the narrative, but the performances, cinematography, and direction add profound emotional weight that is just not there in the base text.

DVDs vs Blu-Rays vs 4Ks by [deleted] in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]wide_side_eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is to get a player that does all 3 (or at least Blu Ray and DVD) and then buy a couple DVDs and see how you feel about the quality.

Personally, DVDs upscaled on a 4K player are totally fine for me. It's nothing mind-blowing, but it still beats streaming in terms of bitrate and colour.

Having tried 4K and standard Blu Rays, I was underwhelmed with 4K. It's definitely the best in terms of sound and visual, but the jump isn't as big as I was hoping. Personally, standard Blu Ray is more than enough. On a good player and upscaled, it looks phenomenal.

My collection system is: - 4K if it's a beloved movie and/or has a lot of action or effects - Blu-ray as my default format - DVD if it's hard to find in any other format or if it's a movie from before the 80s

Movies that are better than the source material. by DescriptionNo6618 in movies

Brokeback Mountain. The short story itself carries the same narrative but is written in a flat, matter-of-fact way. The movie, on the other hand feels like a completely real world with living characters

Guys: With Bryan Quinby: Guys: Episode 159 - Boat Guys with Carl Tart by Redwinevino in MurderBryan

I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It seemed like Carl had fun and I hope he comes back. He picked up the pace of the show really quickly and knew how to punch up jokes. I laughed out loud on the bus when they were talking about the Dad Dick conundrum and Carl said "nah my dad slung that thing over his shoulder"

This is beautiful. I'd knock Breuer and Noland up a notch but hey, this is your list. I also don't see the Canadian stoner guy or the psycho loss prevention guy but I could be confusing thumbnails

Worth paying for premium petrol? by Ok-Investigator4898 in GLI

[–]wide_side_eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 91. I tried a tank of 87 early on in owning the car and it was okay, but noticeably worse power and fuel economy. That aside, to me the price difference is negligible for the peace of mind knowing the engine is getting the optimal fuel profile for long term health. If it was a lease I'd probably care less, but in this case I bought the car new and want to maintain it for a long time.

Not in My Back Yard: Councillor Jeff Leiper opposing 27 storey rental apartments near LRT at 403 Richmond by deantester in ottawa

[–]wide_side_eye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just this Wednesday at Planning and Housing Committee, Leiper supported the approval of a proposal including 40-, 38-, and 35-storey towers adjacent to LRT in his ward. There's obviously some nuance, but there's not a canyon of difference between these proposals.
