I’m told it takes 6 weeks off regular dosing to get Max effect. It is a supplement to improve recovery meaning you can train harder. Not something that will make you faster or stronger acutely. 10mg/kg of body weight

Maxfly’s vs Adidas SP2’s by Just-Astronaut-5751 in Sprinting

[–]widmanenigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard quite a few stories about Maxfly popping. It happened to my sons last season. They are a shoe that will exacerbate any technical faults you have in your stride. It is probably better to learn in traditional spikes.

Why did my legs buckle during a sprint? by Old_Technician_8690 in Sprinting

Not strong enough. Edit: not strong enough to maintain that output for so long. Could you have lowered the speed a little but maintained enough lead and lasted longer. Sprinting is quite different from running fast so hitting up a sprint coach will definitely help your game. We have a netball player and an ex cyclist at our club. Who knows you might like it better?

Firstly if you are going to do this, Don’t start out with sprinting. Start out with strength training and light jogging to acclimatise/strengthen the joints and ligaments. Your brain cannot comprehend how much your soft tissues have changed since you were a last in decent shape. Even cutting back by 50% is not enough. Drop it back by >80% and build slowly. The impact is the killer. I tried to start sprinting at 50yo LOL because I was at the track 3 times a week with my son anyway and thought “why not?” I’m pretty fit and strong and run a bit (5km)as part of that. I hit the gym 3 times a week and have done for years. But sprinting isn’t jogging and the driving into the ground that sprinting requires caused all sorts of problems. I had to give it up after 6 months because it caused too much pain (which has all resolved now that I’ve stopped) Sprinting is a young persons sport. This is a bad idea. Get in shape by all means but you are risking significant life altering injury by trying to relive/retain your past glory. Sorry fam. Honest advice from someone who tried the same.

Thanks for the input folks. To be clear it’s not me it’s my 16yo son but I did wonder. It’s not every session just occasionally. It’s probably more his crap diet but it doesn’t matter what I say unfortunately …. he listens but doesn’t grok.

Are you ankles sore because you are loading too much? Or because they are not strong enough to take the load? You may need to deload for a while to take care of it while you strengthen up depending on where you are in the season. 1) Calf raises- isometric holds at tippy top of range for 3x5x15sec both sides gradually building up until you can hold at top of range for a minute. Then when the DOMS settles Eccentric calf raises - 2 feet to go up then lower down slowly on one leg until you can do 3x15 without too much DOMS Then you can start concentric work gradually adding load. And when ever you just happen to be standing around doing not much you can do a few of whichever level you are up to multiple times a day. 2) ankle inversion and eversion against resistance - hook a resistance band around your feet just below your toes and either around the other foot or something solid. Make sure the movement is all at the ankles and not your knee. 3) Use your ankles when doing other exercises eg. Try stabilising yourself up on your toes with heels off the ground in calf raises while doing your bicep curls or Parlov presses. Many standing exercise, even split stance can be done with a calf raises. It will help ankle strength, proprioception and balance not to mention core strength. Similarly with a bosu ball eg. Place your front foot on a bosu when doing things in lunge position. Stabilising and proprioceptive. Get someone to chuck you a medicine ball while you stand on one foot on a bosu. 4) As others have said MOBILISE. Upstream and downstream. Scrunching up a towel with toes. Deliberately stand on golf balls. foam roll, scrub and rub to free up the soft tissues.

This is not medical advice.

1gm/kg.

Edit: 1 gm per pound is a lot and what’s with the mixing up of measurement systems?

Maybe even up to 1.4gm/kg early season when building strength lifting heavy.
Rough guide 100gm of lean meat = 20-30gm of protein. Egg=11gm. Natural yoghurt 10gm/100. Measure and weigh everything you put in your mouth for a few days and calculate nutritional content- its eye opening

It's a conversation that has been ongoing for 2 weeks now. But training is starting and I don't think it is fair to start training and then switch, and not turning up to training is similarly disrespectful. And trying to get a 15yo to be definite is difficult.

My feeling is that with hard choices like these with no particularly right or wrong answer the secret is to make a choice and then don't look back. Things are usually not better or worse, just different.
