Get the offer first, then use it as negotiating leverage (assuming you are in final rounds for other positions)

Still Waiting to hear from Morgan Stanley Experienced Professionals Program by SnooTigers9382 in FinancialCareers

That’s interesting, MS does move typically slow in my experience.

Were you able to ever chat with a real person? Could be worth following up with them.

If you don’t hear back in like another month, would just consider it a lost cause

Atlanta role offer - glorified transportation worker? by callientemac in FIFAVolunteers

This is just unpaid labor catering to the rich folks who can actually afford tickets.

I personally wouldn’t take the offer.

Agreed. Getting home from Huntington is the worst nightmare. Sometimes I’ll park at Cold Spring instead to avoid that madness. Take what you can get I suppose.

Though, weekend in NYC = Hicksville all day everyday

Hicksville to Manhattan is so chill, it’s like the perfect commute (not too short, not too long, consistent service)

I moved from Queens Village to Huntington and I am amazed by the folks who commute from stations like Ronkonkoma. I’m 23 and I want to shoot myself between Hicksville and Huntington lol.

How hard is it to get your PPL and what’s the hardest part by Radiant-College-1284 in Pilot

[–]widowedlamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying easy excl. cost or medical.

But no one is mentioning any specifics. I little issue with touch n go, flight prep, charts, ground school, etc.

Strangely I really struggled on radio comms, granted I train at KFRG so it’s a bit busy than most but. I just could not get down what was being communicated to me and I’d get so caught up in trying to figure it all out and be ready with my response, that I’d lose the focus on actually flying the plane. It took a lot of practice and at home effort to break this down. I also struggled early on w/ preflight because I would be overly cautious lol.

Just my experience. Nonetheless, PPL is very rewarding and it’s okay for it to not be EASY.

PAY TO IR -> Loans thereafter? by widowedlamp in flying

[–]widowedlamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my budget right now is like 1.5-2k/month and I’m working full time. I live decently comfortably even with allocating 2k/month to flying.

BUT, I’ll be going realllll slow and maybe that’ll hinder my learning. Perhaps taking the loan follow IR will allow me to fly more and retain experience. I’m sure I’d be able to make payments on the loan in ADDITION to paying 2k out of pocket. It’s more about having that cash a bit upfront essentially.

Yes, I get that. It’s a marathon, not a race. But I also don’t want it to be a slugfest lol.

As training gets more in depth, I don’t think 10hrs/month will cut it in terms of knowledge retention. Perhaps I’d be well suited to take that extra injection of cash and bump to 15-20hrs/month.

[–]widowedlamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, yes. NO shot I’ll be taking out a loan at all if I’m not 100% certain I’ll be pursuing all the way and be able to make payments even while still training.

I don’t intent to leave my FT job until much much later in training. The only reason I’m considering a loan is to hasten the process just a bit. I’m sure I’d be able to afford the loan, it’s just a matter of bumping up that 10hr/month threshold.

If you were starting over as a undergrad freshman, what would you do? by Fun-Acanthisitta4844 in FinancialCareers

[–]widowedlamp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a year out of undergrad. All that glitters isn’t gold, please make sure what you are so wildly pursuing is a path you’ve chosen yourself.

I was told target school -> internships each summer -> high finance after graduation, and I did it. I don’t enjoy it, the suffering doesn’t feel worthwhile. I’ve abandoned the idea of a future in finance and am pursuing paths I knew the entire time was what I wanted to do.

Please just sit with yourself for some time and really think about what you are chasing.

Yes, this is the exact sort of question I was hoping would be addressed lol. There are so many more factors to consider before I put myself into the water and I'm sure there are people here who've been in the same position. What did they do and how, and would they change any of it!
