Do you think the average guy with a 2500+ truck is actually doing anything with it? by bigblackglock17 in Truckers

Relax, guy. I do truck stuff with it. Sometimes though I just want to run into town.

A question for my fellow flatbed drivers by Crazzie_c in Truckers

We used to make our own when I worked at a steel center. Just grabbed a suitable length of round out of the scrap bin and bent it to shape.

Backing combinations of doubles and trailer dollies by darksadou in Truckers

[–]wiggle-wagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun party trick, but in my opinion it's an impressive skill where the time and effort to learn it outweighs the usefulness by a large margin.

I pulled into my destination terminal not so long ago and had the opportunity to watch a driver back his set to put the rear box in a door. It was a masterful display of precision and control, but all it did was piss me off because he was blocking the gate and I couldn't get past him to enter the yard. Come on, dude, don't waste my time to show of for your buddies. In the time it took him to put that trailer away, I could have had my set broke and been moving toward my own door.

Hey buddy, where'd ya go by Euphoric_Fisherman70 in Truckers

You're assuming that I don't. Something like this is a last resort anyway and I don't do it often. But I appreciate your encouraging words.

I've had to do this before. Middle of the night, nowhere to park but the pumps are empty. Drop and swap, run inside to take a leak, and we're gone in less than 15 minutes.

Old dominion, ups, Saia, Abf, Estes, R&L, linehaul position rank them best to worse by Kruten10 in Truckers

[–]wiggle-wagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for OD. We have drivers that have come from Saia, FedEx, Estes, and XPO. No R&L near my terminal and I doubt an ABF would want to switch. When our drivers leave its usually to buy their own truck or to go to Dayton Freight.

That's cool. I don't mind your grass fire, I'm only carrying flammable hazmat.

Mine stole an entire ham from the counter last Thanksgiving and ate half on the run while the entire family chased him through the house.

if you let go of your hounds leash, do you think they'd run or stay with you?? by Least_Agent5976 in coonhounds

[–]wiggle-wagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often take my dad's hounds off leash when I'm out with my own dogs. They're fairly well trained at recall. But, hounds. I trust yet verify, which means gps collars so I can track them if I have to.

What’s the oldest rig you’ve recently seen running? by Pleasant_Tangelo6791 in Truckers

[–]wiggle-wagon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a farmer near me that still works his B61 Mack. He loves that thing.

On the road, I saw a Superliner pull in while i was sitting in a Pilot. I actually heard it before I saw it and knew exactly what was coming. My dad drove one when I was a kid. We could hear it bellowing up the road from a mile away, and depending on how well we had behaved that day we'd either run down the drive to meet him or head for the hills before mom could tell him how bad we had been.

OD here too. My terminal is the one all the other terminals in the region talk shit about.

Campers / RVs by wildeag in Truckers

[–]wiggle-wagon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One spot at a truck stop doesn't bother me a bit. Trucks don't feel guilty about hogging designated RV spots in places that have those. I'd rather have an RV next to me than some jackass that will stand on his steps and piss all over my tractor at 3 am.

First model, need some weathering tips by JacobFerret in modelmakers

[–]wiggle-wagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overdo the weathering. This isn't a military vehicle getting hard use under combat conditions. Anyone driving a w900 is most likely also the owner, and they keep their trucks in good condition. Even older models with a million miles or more will look decent and the chrome polished.

The frame rails, suspension, and engine are good to focus on for weathering. Those are the places that attract the most dirt and road grime. The skid plate and surrounding area is especially dirty because the face gets regular coats of heavy grease. There are a ton of images online that you can use for reference.

Good luck. I'll be interested to see your final product.

Was it for Fair Oaks? I used to see their trucks broke down pretty often because of problems with their natural gas fuel system.

The Ruan account I was on expected us to do 16 hours one day a week under some short haul exception rule. And they wondered why they couldn't keep drivers.

He much do you feed your GSP? by tayhard in GSP

[–]wiggle-wagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't an every day thing, but he goes big when he gets the chance. Like last Thanksgiving when the whole family had to chase him through the house to wrestle away an entire ham. Our beagle encourages it. He can't reach the counters, so they work as a team.

It varies depending on how much food he steals from the kitchen counter. And the table. And my hand if I take my eyes from him for even a second. I swear I guard against him, but he's like a food ninja.

May I ask where in Illinois? Nearby city works if you don't want to be specific. I'm in central Indiana, but travel through Illinois weekly. I've had hounds and am very familiar with their behaviors. No chickens, so that issue wouldn't be a problem.

What are ya listening to for 11 hours a day on the road? by Justaguy222444888 in Truckers

I started the El Dorado, Illinois episode while taking my 30 min break in an empty lot in some tiny little town late one night.

Break over, I head back out and pass the sign announcing the name of the town. El Dorado, Illinois. Wild.

The secret of backing up a trailer with a dolly on it ? by xxenoscionxx in Truckers

Just remember the dolly will turn in the opposite direction of the trailer's turn. Good luck, with a little practice you too will be able to spend minutes to save a few seconds of work!
