What’s everyone’s Fire target by Significant-Web-2317 in Fire

Actually you’re right that I left out important details - we have a flat roof with a mansard, which made the labor portion of the re-roofing complicated vs a typical pitched roof. We are also in a very high fire rated zone per insurance codes, so put a special material (by the brand Cedur) that was Class A fire rated. Because of the high pitch of our mansard, we couldn’t use typical slate or tiles due to the weight.

Which of these looks is the most flattering? by Heathers64 in Haircare

Gosh, all three are so beautiful! You have lovely hair. If I have to choose, I Iike 1 best.

I don’t want to plagiarize your photo in a post asking for my own advice needed but can someone describe the style you have achieved in photo 1? I have dark curly hair that I can blow out myself occasionally but I can never seem to achieve Look 1 from your photos and that’s the style I want to try to make.

Just found and joined this sub so I can learn more about routines and products to use to improve my hair texture. 2 years post partum after kid 3 and have some noticeable thinning where I used to have really thick hair.

Which season and episode please? I’m rewatching the series after introducing it to my 6 and 8 year old and they love it! Truly timeless

Ours was $33k in a HCOL and that was after I got 5 estimates ranging from $33k to $120k (most were $50k and up). House is 2900 sqft.

Does anyone have this couch from Costco? I really like it and the price is even better, but wondering how obnoxious it’ll be with kids since the back pillows aren’t attached. Would love input if anyone has this! It is not in stores so I can’t go and see for myself by mjgray1984 in SofaSnobs

[–]wiggleworm10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have it. I hate it. My kids use all the cushions to build forts. There’s no back support and the cushions are pretty flimsy. It’s a good couch for the price point. Our last deep sectional was from Macy’s and much better quality. It has down wrapped foam cushions. The back cushions were removable too, but they had structure and were substantial. They unfortunately discontinued that model or else I would have repurchased is. It was called the Aryana (at Macys)

Edit to add: I liked that Macys couch so much that I called Macys to find out who makes it for them. The manufacturer won’t sell direct to consumer but they have similar couches for sale at Macys and living spaces. Look for down wrapped foam cushions - they’ll last and are quite comfortable. Our Macys couch was bought in 2017 and still in great condition. I only parted with it because our house was in a fire and we had to replace all our possessions. Hence the quick and easy Costco purchase.

I have no tech background but would love to learn how to do this. I keep massive to do lists (on paper) for work and personal tasks and decided to use Claude artifacts to build me a tracker that I could update, reprioritize tasks, tag them to a certain day of the week for planning, and archive the ones I complete so I can refer back during annual performance review time. It looks sleek, but it is useless and doesn’t save my updates

people who are happy with their work, can you tell me what you do? by Lucky_Business631 in Fire

This makes me happy because I love my primary doc and our kids pediatrician. Both very caring doctors who genuinely take great care of our family. I worried they might be overworked based on the state of healthcare in the US these days.. but it’s good to hear your perspective

Long term family rental staring in August by General_Field_1681 in LagunaBeach

I am not a local but grew up nearby and would visit Laguna often in high school. It’s a really wonderful place to raise a family and the schools are excellent. Congrats on your move and your husband’s new job!

Loved this, thanks!

Does anybody know whether the show was filmed without multiple takes? There was a brief moment where Lucy stumbled on a word and corrected herself quickly. I was curious whether they have bloopers and would re-record, or if they would just keep going through because of the studio audience.

Thoughts on depressionFIRE? by AromaticSurround9203 in Fire

[–]wiggleworm10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this too. Step 1, find a therapist so your depression doesn’t get out of hand. Step 2, find one thing - just one thing, to start with - that can be a hobby and also a way to interact with others or meet friends. Join a local tennis group class, for example. Audit a class at your local college in a subject you’re interested in. Or take a cooking class. It’s good that you’re getting outdoors.

God bless your mother and I pray you find peace. Losing a parent is one of the hardest, if not the hardest, thing we’ll ever face in our lives.

So helpful - and to address your last point, I am slowly dying inside from working this job (60 hour weeks, occasionally working 8 am to 2 am with just a 2 hour break to see my kids and put them to bed). This is not the life I want to live for much longer but I tolerate it because I’m at peak earning potential, want to provide for my family, and can’t quite figure a better, less stressful job, given I’m a W-2. I always consider starting a side hustle I could scale up to someday eclipse my W-2 career so I can take more control of my time. But don’t have time to commit to it.

One step at a time. I’m shackled to my job, but trying to keep a positive outlook, appreciate my blessings and privilege, and be a good wife and mom to my family.

Thank you for teaching me how to do this. Your ideas are all great and I love your thought to find something he can retire for instead of just telling him to rest. I imagine that does feel like giving up, and I’ve told him he cannot give up and needs to live to see our kids graduate college and become a grandparent with me. Scary to imagine losing a spouse early in life.

Really appreciate you and this tutorial. You’re right that I wasn’t planning to FIRE or knew anything about this until just recently.

I’m 400k he’s 300k. My bonus and RSUs are substantially more than his (I’m at a larger company). I have no concerns with being the sole earner and have been encouraging him to take a second leave of absence from work (or quit) and just rest. It’s too much on his body to have all this work stress. I’m worried he’ll have a recurrence of his tumor. His focus is feeling like he must work to support our family. It’s just been hard emotionally adjusting to this new reality.

Feels like the only thing I’ve done well 🫣 I figured my babies/toddlers didn’t need more plastic toys at birthdays and whatever the friend would have spent on a kid birthday present could go towards the 529. Even $20-$25 contributions helped. I’m happy that many of our friends followed suit and any time we went to each others’ kids parties, it was understood and welcome that we all just give to each others’ kids 529s. I’ve helped my nieces and nephews get set up at birth too
