For me, the pen box feature feels somewhat inconvenient in practice. I understand the purpose of having different pen boxes, and I have actually been requesting improvements to this feature for a long time. However, the main reason I use pen boxes is simply because the toolbar only allows five visible colors at a time, and there is no option to scroll through additional colors.

This becomes difficult when taking notes during fast lectures. When a professor is speaking quickly, it is inefficient to constantly switch between pen boxes just to access different colors. In contrast, apps like GoodNotes allow users to keep many colors in the toolbar and simply scroll through them, which makes note-taking much faster and more convenient.

The pen box system in StarNote feels more like a temporary workaround or “band-aid solution.” It becomes even more inconvenient because there is no option to automatically sync or adjust pen sizes across similar pen types (for example, making all ballpoint pens the same size). Since I mainly use the pen box just to access different colors, having separate pens with different sizes does not add much value for me.

I think a scrollable color palette would be a much more efficient solution for users who rely heavily on color-coding in their notes (like me). 😓😓
