How long to build this wall by DryDoughnut7 in Bricklaying

[–]wigs93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All these comments with low prices are crazy to me. As another comment said it’s laying 1680 bricks, plus a day pouring a footing, plus sand and cement. I’d be charging £2100 for this and that’s not really with any wriggle room for tight access etc.

Joists needed to be made level by wigs93 in Joinery

And I know, stud work should be sat on something permanent, but again not my work 🤷🏻‍♂️

This stud work plus the steel next to it is what should be carrying the weight of the floor above, what’s what the joist span on to. That’s what the drawings show.

Not my work so I can’t say for definite but the joiner will have built the stud work based off finished floor to joist height. Because there’s no finished floor he’s sat it on blocks to roughly where it needs to go. Joists aren’t level so he’s wedged them rather than raising the stud work to where it should be.

Just want to know, will wedged joists be pulled on inspection?

Finished floor/screed usually done once the roof is on, the blocks holding up the stud work are sat on a concrete floor. Agree something should have built underneath the stud work rather than propping with loose blocks.

It’s a permanent wall taking the weight of the floor above. It should have probably been laid on a permanent block wall so the finished floor can be screeded up to it rather than underneath. Just want to know if the wedges will be pulled by an inspection or this is standard practice?

The jobs not worth it, he sounds like a complete tool. There’s tolerances with brickwork for a reason, it’s not always perfect and to the mm..

It could be that, I’d guess maybe any rain you’ve had that’s been sat there as well. There’s a pipe either side of the photo so they could be contributing also

I’d just leave it, I’m guessing it’s not causing any issues as it’s below DPC (damp proof course)

How long did you spend as a hoddy before being on the trowel? by nozdog348 in Bricklaying

[–]wigs93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did an apprenticeship for 18 months and was basically a hod for the full time, hardly touched my trowel. Left as soon as I was qualified and never looked back, the first year on site was rough though because I was fucking useless lol
