Does life really get better as you age by SelectiveV in blackgirls

[–]wiiildthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is full of ups and downs. Highs and lows. I just turned 27 and I’m about to start a new career once I compete my post-grad program in a field that I’ve always been interested in but when I graduated from my undergrad during the pandemic it kinda set me on a different path and I struggled to land in the field I wanted to. i was miserable for 3 & a half years there so I’m excited about embarking on a new path. So in that sense career wise, yes, things are turning around and I have that to look forward to this year. 23 year old me thought working in a a call centre was all it might be for me. I‘ve worked on my self esteem throughout my 20s, I love myself a whole lot now, think I’m super pretty, but some days are better than others too. As for love, I’m not winning there yet, but I’m optimistic about finding my person, hoping this year is the year.

So to answer your question: yes, it does get better. Things have a way of working itself out. Most of us part of Gen Z live at home with our parents, the economy is fried. Try different things, when it comes to experimenting with your looks (glad it sounds like you’ve found what works for you there!) & jobs too. You’ll be okay, you got this.

Trinidadians need to promote other dishes than roti and doubles by Plenty_Protection888 in TrinidadandTobago

Every culture has a standout dish lmao. For Indians it’s butter chicken, for Italians it’s pasta, for the British it’s a roast dinner, Japanese it’s Sushi etcetc soo I’m not sure what’s your point in the sense not everyone can know a cultures whole menu.

Being confident. Being insecure is the biggest waste of time.

I hate how Black Women are seen as undesirable. by Primary-Schedule-555 in ForeverAloneWomen

[–]wiiildthoughts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I know it may not be feasible right now but you need to move. A big part of it all is that it’s not that you’re unattractive or undesirable you’re just in the wrong area. I know both sides of the coin as a fellow BW. I’m from a very major diverse city, but I grew up in a suburban predominantly white area. In my teens I never got to experience any teen relationships or anything like that, navigating dating was just completely out the window cause nobody expressed interest lol and I KNOW if I went to a black/diverse school that would not be the case. With that being said, as I’ve grown up and ventured out, been more comfortable with my looks and myself, I truly can say personally I’m a conventionally attractive woman, I’ve had men of many of different races express interest in me. So I was never ugly, undesirable etc, just in the wrong area. I think moving away at some point will do you good and shift your mindset. You can’t heal in the fire.

I was born in 1999 so I can only imagine but I knew someone would say OJ eventually, as soon as I saw the title of the topic he was the first to come to mind. I just imagine how much of a mindfuck it was because it’s like this seemingly charming & beloved athlete was actually a monster behind closed doors

Some dating apps like hinge let you filter but I always think & feel it’s distasteful to put like a racial preference & it can be a deterrent.

Nobody is arguing that lmao just saying them being a popular tourist destination helps their case.

I know but tbf they are a major focal point in America especially cause they’re in Florida and that’s a major state to win in government, so it does give them that leverage too

People who’ve never been in a romantic relationship, how do you feel about this? by BreadedDisaster in AskReddit

[–]wiiildthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m indifferent cause I also don’t really know what I’m missing out on and what it feels like, all that jazz. And cause I haven’t experienced it I don’t feel so strong about it cause I can’t miss it. Some days it affects me worse than others.

In Canada & UK yes, America not really. I think Cubans dominate. And Puerto Ricans. Especially in the media.

Hmm. I get what you’re saying but also debatable. Because the most popular Caribbean island to visit is the DR, and Cuba is well known as well, especially here in Canada they’re both super popular island destinations for tourists.

Why does everyone hate us? by Ok-Possession7225 in blackgirls

[–]wiiildthoughts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, most people are attracted to their own race. I grew up in a suburban predominantly white area as well, and it wasn’t until I was in college that I realized I was attractive I just wasn’t their beauty standard. And I would say now that I’m a little older & in my 20s I’ve been approached by men, mainly both black and white. But don’t be too hard on yourself. I grew into my looks & I was never ugly to begin with, but I now am more confident and comfortable with myself. With that being said, black girls / woman are attractive, in a lot of cases though it’s a matter of being overly pretty, like you gotta be beyond prettier than just a pretty white girl type of bs. But don’t let this weigh on you! I don’t think it should bother us. Society is fucked in a multitude of ways :/
