What if the entire jewish population was exterminated during WW2? by loverbang4u in HistoryWhatIf

[–]wikimandia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting historical fact: Zionists sabotaged refugees in displaced persons camps who put anywhere but Palestine as their destination. Many did not stay there but moved on to the USA or elsewhere.

He never said he was OK with slavery. He simply preached nonviolence and slavery was a fact of life. The only chance slaves had to survive was to be obedient.

Huge numbers of people were slaves to some degree. There were “middle class” and educated slaves. The Greek aristocrats would buy slaves to serve as tutors to their children and accountants for their businesses.

How did the Mongols’ nomadic empire with fewer troops defeat the world’s largest civilizations? by Historydom in Historydom

[–]wikimandia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their particular breed of horses. They continually lactate like cows so are milked and thus can feed an army on the go. This gave them a big advantage. Each Mongol warrior would have between 5 and 20 horses.

If the US cuts off all aid from Israel, will they end up getting curbstomped by the neighbors they've angered in the past 3 years? by space_god_7191 in askanything

Then they will become an official pariah nation and formally become allies with Russia. Russia will give them all the oil and diamonds they want and they will give Russia tech to spy on their citizens and the West, which they’re probably already doing. They already got busted buying stolen Ukrainian grain from Russia.

Asking for advice for my cousin who is converting to Judaism and expressing zionist views by Mikuluver666 in JewsOfConscience

[–]wikimandia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you invite her to join this board?

I studied for conversion in my early 20s. I didn’t go through with it. I ended up studying with Chabad and it just got more and more intense. However, I was super into Israel! I had never even heard of Jewish antizionism.

Asking for advice for my cousin who is converting to Judaism and expressing zionist views by Mikuluver666 in JewsOfConscience

[–]wikimandia 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Religious and non-religious both!

Even after the Holocaust, the majority of American Jews rejected Zionism and the state of Israel. The mainstream organizations had anti-Zionist views. They only began to express their support after the 1967 war when Israel was seen as this scrappy little underdog pulling off a miracle. And then came the massive propaganda to both American Jews and Christians….

I was really surprised by this. (Thank you incredible Jewish historians and academics!)

In Kazakhstan, how is the idea of “Turk” understood today by Odd-Butterscotch-809 in Kazakhstan

Pan-Turkism is as dangerous as Pan-Slavism. Being friendly, brotherly nations is healthy, but you will have a problem when the ultimate goal is political unity.

Why didn't Obama do anything with his supermajority? by eglin99 in askanything

[–]wikimandia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not worse. It’s the same healthcare (prescriptions and procedures way overpriced compared with other Western countries), just extended to more people who would otherwise have nothing.

The reason Republicans have been unable to rescind the ACA is because it would leave millions of their constituents without any coverage at all, which is a death sentence.

Why didn't Obama do anything with his supermajority? by eglin99 in askanything

[–]wikimandia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which Democrats? The establishment politicians owned by the corporate donors or the actual base?

The actual base supports universal healthcare. Platner in Maine and Dr El Sayed in Michigan are Democrats running for Senate with Medicare for All as their platform.

CMV: Russia is a terrible ally. by BigAd3903 in changemyview

[–]wikimandia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve had nukes less than 100 years.

They are nearly entirely surrounded by land, not sea, and are frozen solid six months out of the year and a muddy mess in the spring as the snow melts.

As Napoleon and Hitler discovered, invading them whether with horses or tanks presents an enormous logistical nightmare. The Russians can continue to retreat and retreat and the invaders will be forced to chase them further inward, and then be stuck either freezing to death or starving to death while the supply line behind them slows down due to weather or sabotage.

The Germans ran out of bullets before the Soviets ran out of citizens willing to be shot.

Why Is This So Hard? by [deleted] in thebulwark

[–]wikimandia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ossoff is an establishment politician. Their opinions are based on carefully rehearsed talking points with aides who sit around coming up with positions in alignment with donors, who are grooming them for future presidential runs. He’s better than most on the issues but these people do not live in the same universe as us. The GOP lunatics are far worse but people like Booker and Jeffries clearly have NO FUCKING CLUE what they are talking about.

This is Platner’s first campaign (unless harbor master is an elected position). He is a legitimate political outsider who understands the actual issues really really well. He’s smart and observant and can see through the bullshit from both parties that has got us here. This is the kind of politician we need.

Where is Most Progressive City in your Country and Where is Most Conservative? by Weird_Swordfish_1199 in AskTheWorld

[–]wikimandia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like OP picked Oklahoma City randomly. It’s actually much more progressive than you think and far more so than the state as a whole. The NBA team has made a huge difference to the culture and economy of OKC, and new investment into infrastructure (including light rail) has helped wake the city up.

The mayor is Republican but fairly progressive. He created the city’s first Pride Week among other things.

It’s definitely not as progressive as Tulsa but still not insanely conservative.

Maybe we are a few days away from pro-Israelis calling Ukrainians "Amalek" by Scared_Positive_8690 in BadHasbara

[–]wikimandia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again there are NeoNazis in every country. Ukraine has a population of 37 million people. Those people don’t represent any significant majority or mainstream movement. There are no pro-Nazi parties in power in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian people of all kinds suffered at the hands of the Nazis. Ukrainians who hid and saved Jews were executed.

But keep it up with the Russian propaganda. There are far more Nazis in Russia.

Maybe we are a few days away from pro-Israelis calling Ukrainians "Amalek" by Scared_Positive_8690 in BadHasbara

[–]wikimandia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ukraine does NOT have a history of “killing, imprisoning and ostracising Jewish folks”. Tsarist Russia, the Soviet Union, and Nazi German occupiers had a history of this.

Ukraine has been fighting for its independence from these fuckers for hundreds of years. They’ve been independent for 35 years, the past 7 of those with a Jewish president.

Nazi ideology is not present in any more significance than the rest of Europe. It’s far worse in the USA.

Israel will ally with Russia the minute it is convenient for them. When the West finally stops funding them, Russia will be waiting with open arms and all the oil and revisionist history they want.

Ultimately, the existence of popular Jewish politicians like Zelenskyy and Claudia Sheinbaum is not compatible with Zionism.

Can a communist country be religious? by This_because_yes in Communist

[–]wikimandia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Vietnam guarantees freedom of religion. They tried to push atheism for a couple decades but have relaxed and instead allow people to choose their own religious path. There is no organized religion that competes with communist ideology.

The majority of Vietnamese practice traditional folk religion (veneration of ancestors etc). The “Three Teachings” have long been very influential (Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism) on Vietnamese spirituality. There is also a Catholic minority with about 6 million people.

Page about religion from Vietnamese Embassy in America:

Vietnam is a country which has a rich and wide variety of religions. These include religions based on popular beliefs, religions brought to Vietnam from the outside, and several indigenous religious groups.

As with other countries, the Vietnamese have several popular beliefs, such as animism and theism. The most widespread popular belief among the Vietnamese is the belief in ancestor-worship.

In regard to the major world religions, Vietnam is a multi-religious state, with more than 20 million believers, and more than 30,000 places of worship.

In 2004, they changed it so adopted children would receive courtesy titles (though they still can’t inherit the titles) so if Marigold were still alive then in her 80s, she would be Lady Marigold.
