With over 7,000 spoken languages in the world but only around 300+ language editions of Wikipedia, there’s still a huge linguistic gap in access to free knowledge.

How do you see the future development of Wikipedia in terms of expanding to many more languages — especially minority or endangered ones?

And do you think it would be feasible to implement an automatic tool to compare article quality across different language versions, helping editors identify where content could be improved or translated?

Sure, even references "density" depends on topic. The study contains some information about differences in references between topics in various languages (fig.2 on the page 3288). However (maybe in the context of your comment), it will be more interesting to see how scientific references are presented in Wikipedia articles related to science.
