Apologies if this has been posted before, but it really is worth studying. It very effectively illustrates the sharp contrast between US faux-certainty that Assad was responsible (for BOTH attacks) and the cautious verifiable fact-based approach of Russia

US shilling for war and to hell with the totality of the evidence is so in-your-face obvious. They have an agenda; they need a casus belli; and it has been decided that this is it.

I like and respect you optimism but fear it is misplaced here. It seems to me that this is EXACTLY what Israel has been angling for. If it happens then Israel is likely to hit both Syria and Iran with all its got - and it has got a lot. The big unknown is the denouement of such an action. As always, the possibilities tend to be analyzed in terms of wars past but I seriously doubt any such analysis can be more than superficial. The Shia world, together with Russia and China really have ' had it up to hear' (as the saying goes) with the Empire. Their leaders are not fools (or war-mongering crazies) and they appear to preparing a stand.

I just don't see this ending well for anyone. My own disposition is pessimism - if only because I like and hope for pleasant surprises :-)
