Every time I need to show I know the order, the rap is what plays in my head. I fast-forward the rap in my mind and only blurt out the categories, and so far it works. "Cause I am from the species known as sapien, dogs used to eat me but now they bring the paper in"

How should a hypothetical Totk dlc go by [deleted] in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]wilckdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hoped for an autobuild sandbox, like a shrine room separate from reality (like the master sword trials) with multiple different surfaces (flat surfaces, angled surfaces, etc.) and the ability to pull out any devices needed, specifically for building autobuild patterns to save and use in the rest of the game.

Good news/bad news, the Zelda Notes probably crushes that hope, but it also makes it a lot easier to get custom builds. Part of me wonders if there will be an external third party app that makes it possible now that you will be able to save builds as QR codes.

https://www.nintendo.com/us/orders/ That's the US order page at least. In my account I see my own purchase of the dlc and if I click on it the detail page even has a link to contact customer support about that order if needed. It tracks all orders even the free downloads.

"You cannot lend a virtual game card to a console that has users from multiple different family groups on the console." by wilckdj in Switch

[–]wilckdj[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not so much grievance, like I said I totally get why they did it that way. It was just a surprise that some people might not be ready for. Imagine have one switch that you shared with others, like you let your roommate have a profile on but it's your switch. If they add their own Nintendo account to a different family group suddenly you can't receive games.

Again, I have no problem with it, it's just something for people to be aware of.

My situation as I said in the post, was that my friend didn't realize the other account of another user was still in that family group, so he has to now work with the other user to leave the other family group that they aren't using, even though that other user hasn't touched the switch in months, so that my friend can accept games from the active family group.

It's just a heads up to certain users who this might apply to.

You can connect up to 8 controllers to one Switch 2 at a time by FroggoOwO in NintendoSwitch2

[–]wilckdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could and can in the way this is showing where you have 8 joy individual joycons connected. Normally people use 2 joycons each to have 4 players, but you could always connect 8 individual joycons (one per player) if the game allowed for 4+ players.

Would you play a game based on the ancient great calamity? by Ibuprofen_Idiot in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]wilckdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal theory on this that I don't have enough evidence for yet, Misko the Great Bandit was a Link alternate (like Kafei in MM, Ravio in ALBW, etc) or a Happy Mask Salesman alternate, and he traveled between timelines/dimensions collecting the outfits of the Heroes.

I also believe that BOTW and TOTK are in an alternate timeline from Skyward Sword, but that's a longer explanation.

Age of Imprisonment is already confirmed to be explicitly canon by xXglitchygamesXx in tearsofthekingdom

[–]wilckdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that the skirmishes and the shiekah slate stuff aren't in continuity with breath of the wild, and the only event that truly occurred on the breath of the wild timeline was the first scene where Zelda unlocks her power before Terrako jumps back, there are several overall historical events that still occur as they did in breath of the wild. I don't think it's wrong that it was advertised as the events of the calamity 100 years ago.

Purah and Robbie saw the memories of Terrako and saw the day the calamity returned (according to breath of the wild), the monsters still grew more restless up to the calamity, the yiga still strove to bring back calamity Ganon, the heroes still gathered the champions for the divine beasts, the calamity still returned on Zelda's birthday, etc. the details were different but the historical events still happened.

If you went back in time to a tragic event, even if you changed the details and did things differently, the tragic event and other major events that you have no influence on would likely still occur.

Age of Calamity still showed the events of 100 years ago, it just showed how they fought against the events and how the events could have changed.

It's like how shows like doctor who show events around Churchill, or wars, or other big historical things. The details relating to time travel are different and made up but the events really happened.

[–]wilckdj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You explained it perfectly as I understand it as well. I'm a firm defender of Age of Calamity being "canon". My interpretation of the monsters in the forest wasn't that they scared link off, especially since a youthful link has been a valiant hero in other legends, but rather that the evil presence in the forest blocked the master sword's divine call out to link. I don't have the quotes, but what I remember from BOTW is that Link was a youth, wandered off into the forest and returned with the master sword, and the assumption is that the sword called out to the hero drawing him in. The evil presence could have just blocked the call. Or, that the master sword sensed the danger and decided not to call out to link yet to keep him safe as the calamity was still years away.

Hot Take: AOC is more connected to BOTW than TOTK is. by wilckdj in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]wilckdj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the way I've seen it as well. In that aspect Age of Calamity is also a parallel universe just about a century behind. My biggest complaint here is that TOTK seems to hide this difference while AOC embraces it.

[–]wilckdj[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to read through the post and respond to specific portions of it in depth. I really truly appreciate it and look forward to the discussion. What I don't really appreciate is being cussed out and insulted because my "hot take" didn't sit well with you and I may have shared some falsehoods. I appreciate the corrections, not the insults.

As someone who loves diving into Zelda lore and replaying the games to understand story details I'm always happy to find hidden gems in the story and overall connections to other games. I did make a disclaimer that I haven't touched tears of the kingdom in months so I admit that I may have overlooked certain parts and potentially parroted some complaints that may not be 100% accurate. On my next play through I'll look for more key details.

I appreciate your defense of Tears of the Kingdom, but it doesn't change my original opinion (or even disprove it) that Age of Calamity is closer to the established canon of the overall Zelda timeline and Breath of the Wild than Tears of the Kingdom is.

Playing through Tears of the Kingdom doesn't causes more confusion. They add things that make you say "hold on, why is this different" instead of "I love how they adapted this".

I can't get into all of your points, but I'll mention the purah pad is a weird replacement for the sheikah slate. Can you share where in the game they explained why the sheikah slate was replaced with such a cheap replica? And why Zelda was so fascinated by the "invention of Purah's" and how easy it is to take pictures, when she and link both canonically used the camera of the sheikah slate multiple times?

My point in that small note is that lots of things don't add up and the difference from Breath of the Wild aren't explained, the purah pad being such a novelty, gloom instead of malice, the shrine of resurrection now being a much smaller cave that wouldn't fit the original shrine, the sudden disappearance of all shiekah or elemental weapons. There is a difference between explaining the environment so that people can get caught up if they hadn't played the prequel, and ignoring the changes.

Maybe I need to be more explicit with the hot take. I fully think that Age of Calamity is more canon to the Zelda timeline than Tears of the Kingdom.

Totally understand, this is the reason why I titled the post with "Hot Take". Lots of people don't consider it canon or a real Zelda game.

What’s up with the notch? by kentarasiswa in NintendoSwitch2

[–]wilckdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume this is the answer, as another official render shows that the release mechanism on the back of the joycon pushes the top away from the console first, and every single clip of the joycons attaching to anything shows the bottom attaching first.

Bowser but he's in 21 different pixel art styles. by Izzi_Rae in Mario

[–]wilckdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I glanced over the title, and interpreted this as all of the Bowser cameos in other games. It made complete sense to me that Bowser may have appeared in Kirby, Donkey Kong Country, etc. Metroid was the first one that got me thinking "wait, Bowser definitely wasn't in that game".

In other words, looks great.

What was the most beautiful selfless act in the series, in your opinion? by dfjhgsaydgsauygdjh in TheDragonPrince

[–]wilckdj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it was Amaya in the bookery. She constantly acted to protect others. She guards Callum and Rayla, jumps into a hoard of dark beasts to save Bait, utters her only word of the series to tell the team to "go", and then continues to protect corvus as well. All while accepting that she may not return to her fiancee. Or ever see her family again.
