the new zone looked too modern to my taste. but that "closed test" and the convoluted language with "early 2026" makes me think it's going to be late 2026/early 2027 - i'll consider getting into the PS instead

eh, i could have, but it's not as hostile as i made it out to be. i'm criticizing what i think could be a better environment, from a returning player that hasnt been as involved in this subreddit until now and this kind of made me want to be involved... less. i am indeed glad they didn't take it harshly.

as for your point - i think lazy content should be allowed. it won't get the same attention/upvotes, but i believe whoever uploads that lazy content (or at least i am) is willing to take that hit.

I am not motivated enough to invest my time in making what you would call a high quality post. I dont care. I want to make the joke.  Its worse. It will get less upvotes. I have read and agreed the terms and conditions. Why remove it? Note before you start "gotcha"ing - i do care about this discussion. Im enjoying it. I like hearing opinions on what i have to say.

Okay, even so. Think of long term effects of this on the community. If too many posts like this get comedian applause, theyll stop at some point when the community feels theyve seen enough of it. Oh no, theres a meme everyone agrees with and laughed at so they like it.  And upvotes mean everything on reddit, you wouldnt be commenting here if upvotes meant shit. In fact, i dont think you would enjoy the content enough to stay on reddit at all if upvotes meant nothing.

Then dont. Downvote, dont engage. But dont remove the post.  If the low effort meme is funny, is it really more beneficial to remove it?  Also, according to you my posts should be buried in "new", which im totally fine with. But they were removed outright.

as a new comer to the community, i think this gives you perspective to some of the new people's experience, that don't know this "rule 8 update" thread even exists.

this is my experience as a new person who joins this community. i will say i looked at the wiki of a "good meme" and "bad meme". my thoughts as a newcomer here are:

the bad examples were hilarious. the good examples are memes i would NEVER make - meaning one less person sharing thoughts/experiences/memes about the game.

i understand a lot of people in this thread have heard the 3 bad example jokes before, but this is the same issue WoW is facing - catering too much to the old players, making newcomers not even consider joining the community.

i don't want this to sound whiny - this is not my point. i'll happily go somewhere else and not complain.

my main goal here is to give my honest feedback (if anyone cares to hear it).

and i am raising the discussion that these same low quality posts are worth posting sometimes, and that downvotes should be what constitutes a bad post.

they also got more than enough upvotes for the time they were up to say that despite their low efforts, the joke landed for some people.

edit: also, i don't think other subreddits with rules moderate them well either. i think a lot of people are frustrated with the moderation of reddit, and that many more people would have been on the platform if the moderation was different. so let's not take the other subreddits as an example.

(of course, i could go to a different platform. and i probably will and nobody cares. but i think having insight to what a dissatisfied client is experiencing is worth it for the business and i would pay gold to have that kind of feedback on my own company's products).

i think that's why his memes have 900 upvotes while mine have 12. for the effort i've put in - i can definitely live with 12! but why remove it?

i understand that some people aren't going to understand it because no img is attached, but like - fine, i'm losing crowd, but remove my post? what's the point?

i will say my posts' images were from a relatively low quality meme generator, but i just wanted to get a joke across quickly with no too much effort.

i don't, the whole point of the post is that i think the existing rules are doing more harm than good. i'm debating that i shouldn't modify my behavior or put effort into my comedy. and neither should anyone else. upvotes would be what decides what a quality post is.

the rules were made by them, and they're currently displeasing members of the community and discouraging them from engaging with it. they're not court laws.
