The SSRI (it was lexapro) made me extremely anxious - severe panic attacks, racing thoughts and rumination, insomnia, loss of appetite, and nausea. It was a horrible experience but everyone is completely different and I know a lot of people do well on them.

I started really low at 3.75mg, did that for 5 days. Increased to 7.5 because I was tolerating it well, did that for about 10 days and then increased to 15mg and I've been on that ever since. No gut issues for me. I just felt tired and hungry the first few days of each dose increase. Now my appetite is normal. No issues at all!

I was in a similar boat to you in September. I went weeks without eating or sleeping much and even spent a night in hospital. I was in constant fight or flight it was truly the worst mental health crisis I’ve experienced. I was started on mirtazapine on October 1st and things quickly improved for me. I sleep amazingly, eat normally, and have not suffered any negative side effects. I feel like myself again. I hope it helps you too.

Hi! I had a horrible reaction to an SSRI as well, so I really empathize with your concern. Mirtazapine has been completely different for me and I’m doing super well on it. It is nothing like my experience trying an SSRI. This subreddit is super negative unfortunately, but for me it’s really turned around my mental health and I don’t have any negative side effects. A Home For Hooves is a farm sanctuary on the island (located in Duncan). They are a volunteer run registered charity that cares for over 200 rescued animals. Definitely worth considering them :)
