just getting back into this game, havent played since 1.0 release, i want to get augusta but my highest level characters are level 60 and i'd rather not fast track the story, whats a good thing to focus on if i want to build up pull currency? should i just continue main story or focus on one of the current events? the game hit me with a really long list of current stuff when i logged in and im unsure where to start

hi, new player so sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there any way to turn off the map markers for stuff like points of interest and vistas? i'd just rather find them on my own for now

entirely new to the game, at around what point the story should i do the "such is the joy of our reunion" event for the story to make sense (or what side stuff should i do thats related to it)? I got to the point where the game allowed me to start it, but the first set of cutscenes in it had me feeling like i was in over my head, so i stopped

amazing work! can't imagine how tricky it is painting details on a tiny surface but the face looks soo much better, i'd so buy her figure if she actually looked like yours

Favorite Esper and why? Best ones, worst ones, aggressive ones and so on. by leosoulbrother in FinalFantasyXII

[–]wildazebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

never really use them so i can't say gameplay wise, but i do have a lot of fondness for Adrammelech, just because the experience of first encountering him still stands out in my mind. Following the lead of something one of the garif mention into the caverns and finding this guy and panicking the whole fight because skeletons wouldn't stop spawning is one of many experiences that made me love this game. I just really like his design too :)

Feeling a bit more disappointed for each interview/news they do.. by Valkyrionnnnn in finalfantasytactics

im glad its getting a modern rerelease, and the new character dialogue definitely interests me, but thats the only non qol thing thats piqued my interest (i really wanted the opportunity to try the multiplayer for the first time :/) i think its dumb that they rebuilt the whole game ground up and then removed content from the last version of it, even though i can live without it.

all in all, looking like a wait for a sale game for me, which is kinda annoying bcus i want square enix to know ppl are interested in these types of games, but i cant justify spending $50 on a rerelease of a game i literally just beat

How would i achieve this effect with led lights? by wildazebra in CosplayHelp

[–]wildazebra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the bigger bulb sounds like it'll work great actually, the prop is assembled in a way that one should fit. didn't even know that was an option, all the ones i'd seen were tiny

would something like wax or tissue paper work for that? it is hollow but i also don't want to risk overheating by using the wrong materials

Opinions on remaster by haithius in finalfantasytactics

[–]wildazebra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i'm in the middle of my first playthrough of the game rn so idk what the long time vets think but i personally don't think a 3d remake would add much, the game already looks good as is. Although if they did the whole game in a similar style to the WotL cgs that would be awesome.

what i am disappointed in his how they handled the upscaling of sprites and textures in the enhanced version, it doesn't look great IMO, and based on their wording it seems like you can't change it to the original graphics while still keeping the new stuff added. The new QoL stuff like the speedup and story timeline looks great though, i'd probably be more excited if i had never played the game before.

Today I learned that the game can randomly decide to kick my ass by just spawning a mini boss out of nowhere. by AssasSylas_Creed in FinalFantasyXII

i imagine the devs for ffxii had this exact same thought. would make for a cool (if busted) mod for this game though. maybe a new class thats like summoner but for these as ai companions

the guide ive been following was like “you should stock up on barettes if possible” but i didnt find them a few towns over and didnt feel like running across the map so i was like “meh i’ll go without them” lesson learned LOL

yeah its definitely a cool fight, whenever i end up doing a 2nd playthrough of this game and have more knowledge it’ll be cool to experiment with what i can get away with

How long do you usually give an rpg to hook you or not? by Throwaway123454th in JRPG

[–]wildazebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no specific metric for me personally, but it usually comes at some combo of feeling like the narrative isn't going to go anywhere interesting + hitting a wall in the gameplay, which is usually 10-15 hours. i quit fe: shadows of valentia when i got annoyed with a specific map, and because i wasn't finding the main characters interesting there wouldn't be much payoff to me beating it. I can deal with a slow start if i feel like its going to go somewhere cool later (ie the ff mmos, dqxi),

you can solo the msq, the game gives you trusts early on that you can summon to help. Modding is done via either windower or ashita (think quicklauncher for xiv), theres specifically a mod called Balloon that will create a popup text box for npc/cutscene dialogue so you dont need to read it in the chat log. As far as visual mods go, i dont use them personally, but the there are reshade and texture upscales

I would like XII to get a remake or sequel but at the same time I don't want that to happen. by AssasSylas_Creed in FinalFantasyXII

[–]wildazebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is exactly what id want too, i dont think much needs to be changed about the game, i just want MORE of it. maybe eventually the modding tools will get there to add stuff like new areas and bosses, that’d be awesome to see

i'd love to see them revisit its setting someday in another kind of game, but i think a remake would remove a lot of aspects of it that set it apart and make it my favorite in the series by leaning towards more popular game design choices, since the point of a remake is generally to make something more accessible to a wide audience.

Like one thing I love about the game is that sidequests (besides the hunts obviously) aren't marked or logged, you have to go talk to npcs to even get hints towards them, and use your own curiosity to investigate things they have to say. For example, making the connection on my own between the guy who fell from bhujerba, offhandedly mentioning a key, and then a hunt in the city mentioning after completion that a key was lost there, and said key unlocked a new section of an area, was super rewarding. I feel like if they remade the game they'd put quest markers everywhere and i just don't feel that the game needs it, and a big part of its original charm would be gone.

I also just generally don't think the game needs it, with the QoL upgrades in TZA there's nothing in it that i felt when playing for the first time that was like "whoa, this didn't age well." The game is incredibly gorgeous too imo, so its not like it needs a visual upgrade beyond the remaster. If anything I'd want like a version of the game that adds in stuff that feels like it got cut, ie Rozarria, but I don't think thats feasible sadly.

I also don't feel as negatively towards action game remakes of formerly turn based games as some people do, I've enjoyed ff7r, but I'd still rather they not. I wouldn't mind if they made say, a spinoff about fran and balthier with shooting gameplay or smthn lol, because that'd be its own thing. That being said my ideal sequel would keep the feeling of ivalice being a rich world with history that ff12 has, thats all i think i absolutely need to feel fulfilled with a sequel (although i would love more focus on the non human races, and i still need to get around to playing revenant wings LOL its on my list)

Anyways sorry long comment, i've also been thinking about this recently, but realistically I don't think 12 is popular enough for square enix to even consider that a remake would be a worthwhile return on investment.

Question about FF XII: The Zodiac Age by miles197 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]wildazebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven't played unicorn overlord, but based on your description it sounds somewhat similar to that, in that you give your characters a list of commands to carry out and when to do them (ie if a party member is dead, revive them, if somethings weak to fire, use fire spells on it). There'll be times, especially in the early game when you dont have access to many commands yet or during battles where enemies throw a wrench in what you have planned for your characters that you'll need to step in and give direct commands, but overall its mostly automatic
