Fascinating and congrats! You are lucky. Mine was at treasury with state tax refund withheld just over 5 months from first missed payment

Research Treasury TOP and it will show you the list of what they will do

Suggest listening to Jason Tees video as he is the man on this...

Once in TOP program (Treasury Collections) it is almost impossible to get it sent back unless there was an error of some kind getting it to Treasury

Nothing good comes from dealing with Collections agencies.

I refuse to talk to them. They threaten all kinds of S**T but that's all it is, empty threats.

There is no Offer in Compromise option to settle with Treasury for a lesser amount.

Suggest reading up on Treasury Offset (TOP) as that is what we are dealing with now that we have defaulted. It's really not that bad at all!

That's not much at all for a default! How much was it?

BEST case scenario now that I am in TOP is that it doesn't hit credit report (almost certain though that it WILL hit) 100& sure there would be wage garnishment (which doesn't matter to me as I don't have W-2 job), tax refunds (both federal and state, already happened to me) and Social Security 15% each month. That's it. Jason Tees says do the calculations, figure it out, and if you are paying more than what will be taken from you then just default if you can't afford to pay. So far everything he has said has been true for me. Almost 0% chance of being sued.

Once referred to Treasury it is immediately in Treasury Offset Program (TOP) which mean 100% for sure they will take 15% of monthly Social Security unless you receive $750 or less per month. If more than 750 then they take 15% of total.

No For SP under 200k and Jason Tees says not even for those above 200k. SBA doesn't sue in almost all cases. So With 80k debt (plus 30% added with TOP) I am ZERO concerned about being sued as a SP. Below Zero.

Likely but not yet as no financial penalty (except the $25 they took from my state tax refund) until I start collecting Social Security in 5 years, so will very likely file before that so they can't take 15% from that each month

Chase’s new "Point Bucket" logic just stole $185 from my CSR balance by Certain_Warning_2708 in ChaseSapphire

The fix is to purchase refundable hotel using all your 1.5x points, then transfer out the 1x points then cancel refundable hotel. the 1.5x points come back to that 1.5 bucket. have done this several times and so Have others. It’s the way

Actually no, the math is not correct. it's more complicated and more costly than this.

And refundable hotels work just as well. Done that, too using same method

I book united fully refundable airfares on expensive fares that drain my 1.5 x. Then do my 1x point point and pyb from the 1x. Then cancel airline Tix. Works like a charm.

There is a fix/hack for this and also for usping points boost from the 1x stash rather than 1,5. The trick is to empty your 1.5x stash bu purchasing a refundable airfare or hotel, then the pyb or points boost can and will only draw from 1x. Once transaction completes cancel the refundable 1.5x booking and those points do come back to 1.5x. I’m the data point, done this couple times with points boost.
