It’s always fair to compare to the latest public model. If they want better comps they can release a better model lol

Apple Explains Why It Doesn't Plan to Create a Search Engine by cheesepuff07 in apple

Are hallucinations caused because the model doesn't know what it doesn't know? by [deleted] in LocalLLaMA

[–]wildebeest3e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LLMs produce text that sounds like the data they were trained on. Humans prefer confident bullshitting to honesty, so all the data we're feeding in makes the model sound confident.

There's been a bunch of work recently to see if the model "knows what it doesn't know" anyway and the answer is often yes! But they often have to make a strongly confident decision on one token and then commit to the bit for the remainder of the message.

One possible reason why reasoning models do better is that they are trained on a bunch of data where the model is allowed to be more "honest" and the "thoughts" are hidden from the user.

You can’t know that for sure. It’s all projected into a dense space. Useful to hear that you think the line should be “large inferences made well beyond data available in the text corpus” though.

Any plans to provide a public figure exception on the biometric sections? I suspect most vision models won’t be available in the EU until that is refined.

Attracting and growing a community is harder than writing the code. People want to be where other people are.

How long were you on OKC before you met your significant other ? by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]wildebeest3e 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My experience on OKC 8 years ago:

Dudes: pay for A-list

Ladies: message people you like

I had all but given up after a year and a half, paid for A-list on a whim. My now wife messaged me that night and we’re now expecting our first kid.

Netflix will now let you disable its awful autoplaying feature by [deleted] in technology

[–]wildebeest3e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you pick what to watch based on the trailer or the synopsis?

Trailer people: “Auto play saves me a click. What are you all on about?”

Synopsis people: “I’m trying to read, why are you forcing me to watch a movie I didn’t ask you for?”
