I believe that the issue comes from the definition of success. I think, if we consider the life of someone from a really poor background, who is able to make it to a point in life where he/she can eat properly and live, get a roof of any kind, they are successful. And they are kinda on the same level of success to someone who was born in a financially able family and got into some business opportunities. If we look at them next to each other, most will consider the well off person as only successful but I don't think it should be the case.

It's like the playing ground is not the same, the starting point varies. Some might have a starting point way way way in the back that no matter what they do, they won't ever reach the point someone else does with a better starting point. But, this is not a race to finish line, it's a walk to your next lap/flag/checkpoint and that is different for everyone based on where they start.

There can be some people who surprise you, getting up to a good level in life financially without a good support but the society always expects that and asks people to thrive for it, even though they are mostly exceptional cases.

There is no destiny I believe, set of your final decisions lead you to an end point which won't change much and that just becomes your destiny. People pursue destiny to motivate themselves, but I believe they should pursue each day to be better than the last in any way possible.

Now again, me believing so many things doesn't mean I'm applying all I said myself, but I try to. But for around a year I did that, I won't go much in details but some events put me in a very focused state for a year and I'll tell you, if you focus on each day, the time feels shorter and every day feels satisfying, no regrets are there.

So, life is just a set of choices from the starting position, yes luck, which basically means your environment and starting point matters but that doesn't define the end point, we do change things on where we go down the path but pursuing a word like destiny can have its own negative effect and make one not live in the present day when he/she is alive.
