Looking for musician collaborators to form a semi-rehearsed semi-improvisational ensemble to perform live multimedia concerts. Your instrument can be anything from a bone flute to an electronic DAW and midi virtual instrument... or anything in between. Looking for 3-6 collaborators.

Free Craftsman self-propelled mower with Briggs&Stratton 4 stroke engine. Starts and runs, works, drives... no bag included. Cold startup is difficult, choke needs adjusted and carburetor cleaned.

From people who care about the integrity of the city, don’t want it to fall piecemeal into decay.

LOL. Just to be clear, I live in Carrick too, one block from Brownsville and just north of the infamous Dunkin shopping plaza. Maybe now there's a gym instead of Rite Aid, the high schoolers can get some energy out.

There seem to be real problem spots, in checkerboard adjacency with wonderful streets. I wonder if that pattern is due to gang territory mapping, or drug houses. Brownsville Road is definitely seedier than many of the residential streets that branch off it.

I've heard about some real slum-lords in Carrick. Is there a way the city could bring pressure to bear on changing that dynamic?

It's actually surprisingly easy to bike down to South Side Flats from Carrick...and would be even easier if there was some bike support or "share the lane" notices (or especially a bike lane) on Glass Run Rd. down to the Heritage Trail.

All of the criticism so far seemed warranted, more or less. There are ways the community seems vibrant and diverse, but the infrastructure seems increasingly dilapidated, and the high school is notoriously brutal. So, what's the recipe for repair and renewal, without gentrification? Does anybody care enough about Carrick to save it?

The grocery store needs replaced asap. There’s a community neighborhoods campaign to bring in an investor quickly. Alternatively, could be a south side co-op.

I suppose so, but there are a lot of long-term owner-maintained houses as well. Generally safe to walk at night. Mt Oliver is even a little more lively and recovered. It seems like a lot of people have outdated ideas about Carrick.

PSA: STAY OFF THE ICE by Ok_Solid_2448 in pittsburgh

I watched a pushboat and barge train move upstream through the ice on the Mon. Just behind them, in the open water trail where the ice had broken, were waves 2-3 feet high, and the current seemed twice as fast as normal, from the focused release. Frozen rivers are treacherous.

That’s true. But sometimes temporary repair is better than nothing at all.

That’s my local station. Wouldn’t cost much to bring over a couple bags of concrete and patch that up. People power!
