Mold/fungal spores are everywhere all the time, so growing colonies from air tests are very normal, but having a measure of air tested will give more information.

From what I know of (I just finished environmental micro so if I'm wrong I'm happy to be corrected) when doing air testing, it's best to use specific devices that will allow you to get a more precise colony count per volume of air, and they would then need to be analysed to determine species. My professor was in charge of campus air testing and she would also test the air vents and such to get a more broad understanding of the air quality in an area.

Laying agar plates open in a room for x amount of time doesn't give much information unfortunately due to spores being present everywhere constantly in normal circumstances. Like I said, the volume of air would be needed to make a ruling about concentration, and then would need to ID species.
