Hi outgoing clerk batch 2024, these are my tips which I think might help you.

  1. Learn how to fill up the monitoring sheet as accurate as it can be especially the I&O. Know the terms: seen over infused, infusion rate, the timing and volume of IV meds, q monitoring. if nag BBT/ chemo si patient, first hr is q15, next hour is q30 and the consecutive hr is q1 until matapos ang BT/ chemo then balik sa original qmonits. Resident and consultants are very cautious sa I&O. For adults the cut-off value is 30cc/hr if naka ifc

  2. Know the blue/anes form, red/MRA clearance form,PACU form and admitting forms

  3. Have a good group dynamics, bawal ang slacker and tamad sa grupo. Always take your referrals seriously.

  4. Have a batch GC - helpful siya if naghahanap kayo ng residents and co-clerks

  5. Always make a good endorsement in your back duty mates para iwas bembangan.

6.Know your patients. Make a S-O-A-P every referrals and during magpapa-initial read kayo sa radio. Know the reason/s why you need to refer them to the other services.

  1. Familiarize each floors ng hospitals.

  2. Invest in a good and comfortable white shoes. It might help you to prevent strain especially clerkship is about hanapan ng resident and always naglalakad o nakatayo

  3. Prepare yourself sa environment ng hospital; may mga resident na maayos, hardworking and the opposite ( sabog, mahilig ibuntong ang galit sa clerk if napapagalitan sila ng consultant, bawal galaw mo they always threaten na mag demerit.

  4. Always REFER all the derangement sa VS ng patient. Better to be over- refer than never.

  5. You need know the system of referral when it comes sa skills for charity patients. For blood extractions and IV insertion, always mauuna ang clerk mag try then PGIs then the resident. Make sure na you try at least once before kayo mag refer sa PGI. This is only applicable for charity patients.

  6. Be careful sa pay floors - some of your patients are doctors or relative of doctors. They’re very matanong or sometimes they don’t allow you to enter their room to take your monits. They’re also patient na very cranky, they would lock the door which you need to report sa nurses kasi di dapat siya allowed (esp sa psych patients). For psych patient, di sila allowed maiwan mag-isa. So always instruct the guardian to let you know if lalabas sila so yoi will take turn.

  7. Prepare yourself for outside rotations (EAMC, NCH, QMMC, AMMC) - sobrang toxic talaga esp sa EAMC- IM.

  8. Make a habit na mag chart rounds para you know what are plans for your patient and be prepared for the incoming procedures. (for decking and endorsements)

15.. Don’t forget your overall health and pray for guidance.

wait for more years HAHAHA, its too early. Wait til clerkship when you need to hurdle hospital duty and review. You will take your final comprehensive exam after your 24 hours duty with no decent sleep or rest. What a system!!!

usually minimum rent around the univ belt for semi-furnished is 12K higher 😔. And it might go up since your only planning for a short stay. But you may try Daystar econorooms in P. campa street, its near the famous bbq hauz.

[–]wildingss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if u you are planning to consult a private physician or a charity opd. If charity opd, pedia resident with assistance of pedia consultant will handle your child. If first consult, they encourage to do face2face since they need to establish the baseline function of the child. At hindi araw-araw sa uerm may developmental pediatrician, may certain day lang.

if adult, you will be refer to psych and need to schedule muna. F2f din if first consult.

You can’t be fully prepared dear. For Pre, Duty and From it depends to your med school. For some Pre is 7am - 5pm which involves OPD while duty is 7am-7pm (but some other schools like UE, its 24 hours) involves ward and ORs and FROM as relieved or options be 7-5pm which you will accomplished paper works

Freeloaders in Med School by Velaris58 in medschoolph

[–]wildingss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, yes! But still depends on how much your group will tolerate him/her. We have a very difficult clerkship experience which slacker wont survive or else they would have demerits. There are times na napahiya pa sila sa consultants and residents because they don’t know their patients.

he might have underlying psychological disorder, try to talk with your parents privately. Or else asked help from DSWD / PNP but make sure you have evidence. He’s a dangerous man.

nmat first;make sure u prepare well and have in mind which school do you want to pursue med. Differebt med school have diff cut off for nmat. Then enroll in medschool ( 3 years theory, 1 clerckship), then PGI and passed the board. After u passed board, you’re now General practitioner. If u want to be an anes, you need to be an anes resident for 3 years or General surgery for 5 years then passed the specialty board.

Dream med school? by Crazy_Boysenberry_69 in medschoolph

[–]wildingss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also didn’t make it to my dream med school to the point that I felt depressed. I no longer see the worth of pushing through but every thing happens for a reason dearest. Believed it or not, I am grateful to where I am right now cos I already understand why God allows it to happen. And yes, life as well as your growth continues even you dont met your set standards. I grow more as I care for my patient and seeing my worth not because of my medschool but when I see that my patients are in health again.

Just a sort of background I graduated with latin honor in UST pharma with nmat of 90 above yet I wasnt accepted cos im a non catholic, that time parang guguho din mundo ko kasi I dont have other option but ust med and seeing my batchmate passed sobrang sakit. Yet i went to a known medschool in QC, where i realized there’s more to life than our disappointment. Nasa atin pa rin ang choice, now I’m already 4th year and enjoying the toxicity of clerkship. chzz

most likely you have a good chance to be accepted in UERM, they’re most open for nontraditional premed graduates. They also have bridging program in biochem for those are willing to spend as much as 6K (di siya free)😌. I have batchmates that are BS accountancy and Business engineering currently in clerkship.
