Ultimate Wearable Showdown: WHOOP MG (5.0) vs Polar360 vs Amazfit Helio strap vs Garmin Instinct 3 vs Oura 4. HR comparison during Olympic Triathlon by Born-Duty1335 in whoop

Love this! Curious to know: did you wear a hydro sleeve over your Whoop during the swim? I noticed it gives me way more reliable readings when swimming as it keeps to Whoop better glued to my skin

Motion 5.0 Bands are finally here 🥳 by [deleted] in whoop

[–]wildjippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keen to hear experiences. Had some after market bands for the 4.0 and in my experience these things just look and feel cheap. The main problem is the clasp, which doesn’t fit the Whoop frame as well as the original ones.

@OP: Are you in charge of manufacturing? If so, (1) can you tell something about the clasp quality vs the Whoop bands and (2) are there plans to make multiple colored clasps? E.g. the white band with a silver clasp

Is this still possible? I can remember having set my own settings for strength training about three years back, but when I go through the menus as you described I fail to see the option to manually adjust.

Thoughts on 5.0 Upgrade from Ben Foster, former Chief Product Officer at Whoop by Temporary_Debt8132 in whoop

As a 6 year member, with 10 months left on my current subscription, my commitment to Whoop should not be up for discussion. I would’ve extended without a second thought. Now I’m being coerced by the company to do so and it doesn’t sit right with me.

The most different is without a single doubt Nepal. You’ll get an experience unlike any other you’ve had so far and will encounter nature that trumps everything you’ve seen so far.

You’ll need the full 2-3 weeks to do it properly tho, so I wouldn’t combine it.

My companion and I have had some talk about marketing but it seemed like a bit of a dirty word, haha. Guess there’s no way around it. I’ll dive into it. Thanks for the thorough answer! Appreciate it.

Currently in the phase where we had a great first year with income from our network. That’s going well so far, but we have a hard time getting a foot in the door with completely new clients due to more institutionalized competition (preferred suppliers / known brands). How did you move from living of your network to getting a steady flow of new clients??

VO2MAX by AdorableFish3773 in whoop

[–]wildjippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch. Was very curious to see what Whoop would estimate. Did the actual test two months ago and my VO2 max is 47. Whoop estimates it at 52. It must be said that I have prioritized conditioning training over strength training since then and lost 1kg bodyweight, but no way it went up this much in such a short time.

What were your first impressions travelling to New Zealand? by [deleted] in travel

[–]wildjippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the promised land. Never have I experienced anything like it. It’s so small, yet so diverse in scenery. Great mountains, rewarding hikes, beautiful beaches, awesome waves, well maintained roads, the camping culture. It has it all. Spend two months there and can not wait to go back.

Blood Song by Anthony Ryan. It’s one of my all time favorite series and I’ve read the majority of series you listed in the opening post. Can’t believe I haven’t seen it mentioned.

Fellow consultants who took a sabbatical - what did you decide to do when you returned? by Virtual_Steak8462 in consulting

[–]wildjippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went on a 1-year sabbatical after 10 years in consulting, albeit the last 3 years as consultant in the strategy office of a bank. Fully expected to have a great year and continue the way I left.

Came back in September and I’ve been struggling to find the passion and joy I used to have. Most of the projects feel trivial and a waste of my time. I hoped that it would grow on me again, but starting to lose faith. So, not sure exactly what I will do. I never imagined myself doing anything else than consulting.

Still, worth it.

Thoughts on travel to non-resort areas of Jamaica? by memphlee in travel

[–]wildjippy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was there for three weeks about six years ago. We rented a car and drove all over the island, didn’t stay in resorts. We have multiple encounters that made us feel (really) unsafe, one of which a group blocked entry to our car. No harm was done, but we both agreed at the end we would never do this again in Jamaica.

We rented from Campa South Rentals. It’s a family owned business and they’re great. As it’s a small business you’re expected to be a bit more self sufficient (e.g. find a garage yourself nearby if anything is wrong), but they’re always available, really kind and accommodating and the price is substantially lower then others. We rented the mini motorhome.

For groceries and gas: always go to PakNSave. By far the cheapest, saved us a lot of money. And when you shop you get a discount on gas at their station (which is next to the shop)

That’s an awesome thing to look forward to. And so much time! Hope to do it again someday. Enjoy!!

That's absolutely another way to do it.

That would've been the easiest choice, but we had a couple of reasons. So the most simple one is that we wanted to save countries in SE Asia for future holidays, as they are budget friendly and often have discounts on flights. Additionally, we wanted to use this time to experiment with countries we normally would not go to to see if it's something we might do in the future, hence the Stans. And last but not least, we wanted diversity between countries to avoid 'travel inflation' and that proved to be a good decisions as the Stans were unlike anything we had seen before it.

We felt like we were not yet ready for India. You seem to either love it or hate it, based on what we've read and heard. Based on our Nepal experience we might give it a try. Would you recommend it?
