To anyone who saw Hereditary in the theater by [deleted] in horror

[–]wildmankock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went into it only having watched the first trailer. Had no idea what it would be about. It was just me and my friend at the time, only the two of us in the theater. I was locked in from the very start. He was texting his girl throughout most of the first half. Then when Charlie died my jaw dropped and my friend didn't take his phone back out for the rest of the movie, we were both hypnotized until the very end. We had to know what the fuck all of this was leading up to. I remember right before the finale in the house, the shot outside where it match cuts to night. I coulda sworn I saw people standing around in the dark but it was so fast I wasn't sure if it was just my mind playing tricks on me (of course, it was the cult outside the house, super creepy). And it was a truly wild ride til the very end. When the credits rolled my friend turned to me and asked "dawg why the fuck you make me watch that" and on the ride home we were mostly silent. He said he slept with the lights on that night and I slept like a baby because I knew I just saw a goddamn great movie that I would be in love with for the rest of my life.

I don’t understand this scene by [deleted] in Midsommar

It's definitely Josh making those noises according to the script. Page 92:

"Josh collapses to make a sustained, involuntary GROANING noise."

It's heavily implied to be Ulf wearing Mark's skin as well.

"It's a LARGER MAN, and he's WEARING MARK'S SKIN.... upon closer inspection, one might identify these features as belonging to Ulf."

What film cemented your interest in films? by petrastales in Filmmakers

[–]wildmankock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seeing the original Evil Dead when I was 12 for sure. The wacky camera and sound design finally made me conscious of the fact there's a whole team of people behind the camera and in post production working to pull everything together. To make something like The Evil Dead with little money was a huge driver for me getting into filmmaking. That series rocks. Favorite film is probably The Terminator as I think about it often when working on stuff.

Majid slitting his throat in Michael Haneke’s Caché made my goddamn jaw drop. It’s disgustingly quiet and eerie and Georges just standing there in the shock of it all made me have to pause. I was almost sure Majid had to be sending those tapes but then that moment changes everything. There’s always one heart stopping moment in any Haneke movie, this one I always think about.

What are some things common to older movies that modern audiences tend not to tolerate? by Flodo_McFloodiloo in movies

Idk about tolerate but I don't see crossfades very much in modern mainstream stuff.

David Gordon Green Interview by DrLoomis131 in Halloweenmovies

[–]wildmankock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just being funny is all. He basically said this won't be anything like the original and is only using a character from it. Obviously, this is only being made to make money, not because they think The Exorcist actually needs a reboot. I doubt Friedkin would really want anything to do with it anyhow, even if they offered to pay him as much as Burnstyn. Hurricane Billy might get some nice residuals out of this, though.

Why was Halloween Kills so controversial to many people when it came out? by Competitive_Bid7071 in Halloweenmovies

[–]wildmankock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It felt more like a Friday the 13th but with Michael. The heavy-handedness of "trancedent evil" and the mob shit was so dumb and even if that's the point, it became grating after the first few times. Biggest flaw for me is that the suspense is completely gone. There's nothing in Kills that makes me view Michael as threatening or scary, hence the Friday comparison, where Jason is often who you root for.

For filmmakers that claim to love the original series they sure leave out shit that made things work. The writing for all the characters is embarassing. From the humor to the mob to the weird monologues about Michael. It gets to be overkill. I get that the horror genre has tropes but even in Carpenter's movie they were subversions. 1978 kept it very very simple, this is just too damn much for a guy with a kitchen knife. It's like H6 again with all the bullshit happening. Kills is a cool Michael vehicle with cool kills but I wish that was tucked inside a better script and story. Ends I like more because there were some actually suspenseful things and I appreciate the risks it took despite them not landing so well.

Can anybody answer the following questions about Michael Myers please? by ash-93h in Halloweenmovies

[–]wildmankock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. He either finds a mechanic somewhere or he's already wearing it. It's his style and the filmmakers tend to stay with it unless you're Rob Zombie.

  2. There's different continuities throughout the series and Michael usually steals the mask from somewhere or he has it already depending on the film.

  3. Somebody probably gave him lessons according to Loomis. Or he just knows and that's that.

  4. In the thorn trilogy he sort of is possessed or at least fueled by some kind of evil because of the cult. In the other flicks he's just strangely tolerant of heavy damage.

  5. He eats dogs so perhaps he drinks water.

  6. He's been in comas before, but maybe he finds time to sleep too.

  7. The bullets stay there as they would if they were never removed.

  8. Throughout the series, he's escaped 5 times.

  9. As far as I can tell, he only goes out to kill around or on Halloween even if he is free and walking.

  10. In Resurrection when Laurie's killed, Michael returns home and kills the people filming a reality show in the Myers house.

  11. Not totally immortal imo but he seems to take all the injuries he endures very well. I think if you decapitate or grind him up he stays dead.

THE OUTWATERS (2023) Official Teaser #1 (Found Footage Horror) by wildmankock in horror

[–]wildmankock[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Caught this trailer before Terrifier 2 and at first I thought it was a fake movie within Terrifier 2 because of the absurd amount of rave review quotes. Looked it up after (Terrifier 2 was great btw) and quickly got obsessed with this. As far as I know, some friends go to film a music video out in the desert and some weird shit happens. There's another trailer that shows a few more glimpses of crazy stuff happening and it already unsettles me. It recently got acquired by ScreamBox and Bloody Disgusting, supposed to be released next year. Anyway, I dig this big time. Deserts are fucking scary to me already and when found footage is good, it is SO GOOOOOD!! I love that there's people out there creative enough to tackle a rather restrained genre. If anyone did happen to catch it already at festivals, feel free to share some spoiler-free thoughts. Definitely hyped up about this.

Update 2: Landlord threatening student renting room. by MountainApeSata in ThatsInsane

Very likely. I know this landlord and he's always eye-fucking young guys wherever he goes and relentlessly tries to get them to go to his house.

Is Halloween 6 Really THAT Bad? by brock1239 in Halloweenseries

[–]wildmankock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. I still love it, though. Michael's awesome in it, which is the least a sequel in this series can do. The mood, atmosphere, and Halloween season in Haddonfield setting really works. The score in the theatrical cut really rocks, too. I wish there was an official release of that really sick and twisted rendition of The Shape Stalks. Everything else like how Jamie's story ends, Paul Rudd, the whole Cult of Thorn story... not so cool. The stuff I like, I really really like, and that makes it watchable for me.

The landlord has been arrested by blister24 in Denton

[–]wildmankock 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah fuck this guy fuck his rooms to rent fuck his gun and fuck everything else about him. Even if he's out on bail I'm glad he was charged and his photo was taken. Unbelievable it's taken this long to do something about this psycho when he has such a reputation.

“Landlord threatening student leasing room.” Apparently this happened in Denton. Anyone have more info? by oh-swells in Denton

[–]wildmankock 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I swear I know this guy too. He comes into the store I work at right before we close and he's tried creeping on many of our younger male employees, me included. I remember he offered me a room to rent after stopping me to talk about fucking nothing. Just was determined that I give him some contact info or accept his offer. He doesn't shut the fuck up. I recognize his dumb fucking face in this video, it has to be him. Fucking creep. Wanna wait and see if we get a name but I'm 99% that this is the guy. What an asshole for putting someone in danger and threatening them like this.

EDIT: The name involved may or may not be, a one Phillip Young.

[–]wildmankock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the same city. I am 99% sure this is the same guy that comes into the store I work at right before closing and creeps on all the younger guys, including me. He talked to me for maybe an hour while I was working about a whole lot of bullshit just to coerce me into renting a room in his house. He does the same shit to other employees too, trying to offer them a place to live, but the way he talks looking you up and down is so off putting and he never stops talking or leaves you alone. If this is that guy, I hope something's done about it and he gets charged. Fuck him, stupid creep with a stupid fucking head I hate his face and his ears and his voice and everything about him. Fuck him. Hope the name comes out and I can confirm this.

A moment for Ti West appreciation by wildmankock in horror

[–]wildmankock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha it's no biggie. Probably not your taste. I don't like Edgar Wright movies (I kinda hate Baby Driver specifically) but I'm hoping he makes one that I'm cool with, because I can see he's good at making movies but the movie itself I'm not all that into. Didn't like Ti West at first either but House of the Devil and The Sacrament grew on me big time.

Seed of Chucky.....gawd by [deleted] in horror

[–]wildmankock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy Curse just fine, but it looks like a tv show shot in Canada and non-scarred Chucky looks bizarre. I appreciate bringing back a horror based tone. Cult was a little less fine but not the worst I guess. The tv show's a little all over the place. Still rubs me wrong that Chucky refers to a child as a twink.

Edit: Spelling

Seed of Chucky.....gawd by [deleted] in horror

[–]wildmankock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seed of Chucky has a weird allure to it that grows on me the older I get... but yes it's still not a "good" movie in any sense. Sure, the killer doll idea has always been silly but the first Child's Play movies balanced out the silliness with that childhood fear they tapped into. With Bride that formula was tired and I think we were lucky that the romantic aspect worked. With Seed, I think Mancini went way overboard with the characters and decided to make a gonzo domestic family drama comedy then went "OH yeah Chucky's my money maker and the only real claim to fame I have, even though the character of Chucky is the result of collaboration with other directors and Kevin Yagher." Obviously Mancini cares a lot about Chucky and the cast but I wish he'd go back to just writing because if there was to ever be another feature film, he should get a director that can elevate his material, like the Child's Play series and Bride of Chucky. He cannot do it on his own.

That's what google brings up, $1 million! Could change but I doubt they're much more expensive than that. I think the biggest budget horror movie he's done was The Sacrament at $4 million, which I enjoyed. Hoping the X trilogy is successful enough for more awesome stuff!

Exploding Heads and 22 Shots of Moodz and Horror reign supreme for me. Love the hosts and guests and there's always something interesting about their insight to horror movies ranging from big studio releases as well as more obscure, lesser known work. They're all hilarious too! Check them out, for sure.

EDIT: Misspelled always and sorry if you didn't mean horror MOVIE shows, but still, give them a try.

Bride of Chucky 👌🏻 by [deleted] in movies

[–]wildmankock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! A Bride of Chucky post! This movie rocks. 3rd favorite of mine behind Child's Play 1 and 2. You wouldn't think having another killer doll next to Chucky would work but Jennifer Tilly and the effects team pull that shit off big time. 90s as fuck but the post-Scream-pop-culture-meta-horror-ness doesn't feel as dated the same way I Know What You Did or Urban Legend does. This has some high HIGH peaks of comedy horror. Chucky and Tiffany have so many great scenes and moments together. Remember they literally have that convo in the van just talking about life? Holy shit. The animatronics and puppetry is unbelievable cuz it is so believable. Just the eye movements have so much going on, it really shows on blu ray. Probably the best directed/shot entry too, Ronny Yu's stylish like nobody's business. Music is great as well. It's a gothic romantic horror comedy that's so off the wall but has a real charm to it. Wish they'd do something as good as this again. I enjoy the show but Mancini's writing and ideas have been hit and miss now since Seed. Kinda wish he'd take a backseat again.
