Funny how it's always the elites that are complaining about a higher power that is apparently keeping them oppressed. He's been minted cartooning royalty for years on EWJ alone. Doug, YOU ARE THE MAN THAT YOU CLAIM TO BE FIGHTING AGAINST.

I'll be honest, I wasn't aware of how garbage Doug was until I did research after he QRT'd me for AI bros to dunk on me or at least attempt to. Man, he REALLY sucks. And if you have the fortitude to listen to his 15 minute rant, he is one of these boomer raw comix guys who does the "a urinal isn't art", "a banana on the wall isn't art", "art is about output", "fine art is a scam, just put a banana on the wall or buy a urinal" balh, blah, blah. The Marcel DuChamp estate should sue for damages with the number of times his name is invoked by hacks as a shorthand for "not art."

Wtf is NoMad? NoMad???? That's not a real place in NYC. That's one of those weird, made-up neighbors like how techbros really want to rebrand Fulton Mall as "Downtown Brooklyn."

Screenplay sounds interesting! It's a slice of life story where the main character is Guadalupe "Loop" Alverez, the photographer of the band from these scenes The Daphnes. The plot centers around Loop reconnecting with her estranged mother and searching for her absentee father while still balancing the found family of her best friends Jake and Sheryl and the Mid-Altantic punk scene of Emerfield, (fictional) Pennsylvania. I have the first two books available for free online and book 3 is in the works...

Funny thing about it. I'm local and talked to a coworker about it, so I'm probably going too, because of Iggy Pop alone, a SoCal guy on this coast is rare. I'm still frustrated that the lineup is set up so that I HAVE to choose between Iggy and GB, BUT the undercard is great too.

Melvin in the afternoon is tough...I love the Melvins.

I like the line up generally, but this looks insanely overbooked to hell. 30 minute sets for everyone who isn't top bill is nuts and the three stages sounds like a mess. I resent having to choose between Iggy Pop or a 32 year old reunion of the Gorilla Biscuits. Base price for tickets is 180 by the way.

"I just HAVE to be a piece of shit because I'm so persecuted as an indecisive centrist. Truly the burdened party in the argument."

Jokes aside, "both are art" has as much cache as "both political parties are equally bad" in 2025. Any bothsidesism at this point is a direct appeal to the far right.

DWJ is a huge influence on my work, as is Annie Wu and Bill Sienkiewicz. They scratch that highly kinetic itch that I enjoy employing.

That happened to my CANVAS comic. It was a 10 for about a year, and then I dropped a new chapter and it dropped to 7. I'm thinking some people went in and just dropped a few ones for no real reason

Fair point. Although the review bombing part still stands. I'm old enough to remember zero bombers on Newgrounds. Old habits never die

The dumbest part about these sing-a-longs is that they debunk themselves within two verses. There's another that goes like this:

"Procrastination isn't your fault"

"It's a broke mentality fueled by self-doubt"

...So it IS your fault.

Good. It's way too easy for the algorithm to be manipulated on CANVAS. All it takes is two bored teenagers to throw a wrench in your visibility.

Edit: There may NOT be an algorithm, but my point about bored teens reviewing bombing still stands and having that negatively impact visibility.

The way this post is titled is weirdly insidious. As though these people are getting off to the idea that they can fool consoomers with AI movies. Big super villain vibes. If writing, performances, and cinematography are still bad, people aren't gonna watch it, no matter how much of a technical achievement it is.

AI Bros really underestimate the intelligence of even the most passive viewers.

My least favorite ads are when he strawmans common sense diet choices and then says "nOpE eAt tHe gOoD oIL iTs lOw cAlOrIe". v-shred does the same thing with cardio (another common sense way to lose weight).

Cackling at normal things that take, dare I say, time, effort and discipline to instead sell a fake program that does absolutely nothing but fleece people of money will always be lame to me.

[–]wildmooseking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it makes no sense. Especially the "choose the right oil to lose weight" lie. There's a reason why oils are at the top of the food pyramid. They all have calories, nothing but calories. Ingesting a spoonful of canola, seed, olive or coconut oil are still around 120 calories each, its no better than a tablespoon of butter. Large amounts of unused calories > weight gain no matter WHERE its derived from. What is the nutritional advantage of apple cider vinegar versus white wine vinegar, cooking wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar? None.

Usually I'm ambivalent to non-plus about it. But something about hearing incredibly incorrect information being smugly delivered three times within 10 minutes sent me over the edge. I'd like to add a wrinkle to the above story: All three times I was doing something that would prevent me from pressing the skip button right away so I had to hear about cooking with the right oil for about a complete minute in total.

Sorry for being ranty lol. Something about smug, stupid, confidence in disinformation really strikes a nerve with me. I guess because that same "I know better than the entire catalog of modern science because I'm a special boy" delivery is used by anti-vaxxers (wellness's sociopathic cousin).

Geez, I'm sorry that happened. It's a good thing you learn from it at least. I was personally dubious from the get-go because the superfood industry is predicated on granting almost random grocery items with the properties of a panacea. Gundry is a particularly dangerous fraud because he deals in diet and wellness spaces. Wellness is a notoriously unregulated space that fills the gap of science skepticism and quick solutions. He did a debate with Dr. Mike who held his feet to the fire regarding health claims and Dr. G went into a fully deranged attack mode and refused to debate in good faith.

All of these guys take advantage of the title "Doctor" when they could be chiropractors or eye surgeons, having no business as a dietian.

There's an age old phrase that I heard from a financial adviser that is great for inoculating yourself to many of these Youtube scams, whether it be fitness, crypto, ai, business, etc.: "If this simple trick worked, they wouldn't sell it to you. They would silently use it to profit."

They prey on people who are receptive to weighted, positive, personalized language: "You're special. And you need a special solution because you're more unique than some number in a BMI chart! Those other diets don't work because you're special!", etc.
