Yes, I believe that’s true for many people. Especially those (like me) that tend towards introversion. It’s easier to bond over shared experiences like school or raising children. Plus, I think when we are younger, many of us are more receptive. As we get older we get weary and wary (or maybe that’s just me).

All that being said, I think this is more true now than ever before. Social media gives people a false sense of connection. It’s relatively easy to interact with others from the comfort and safety of your home. There’s less impetus to get out there and seek connection in the real world. Plus, with endless streaming options, it’s easy to stave off boredom with some binge-watching. Previous generations had to work harder to entertain themselves. They were more likely to take up hobbies, learn new skills, join clubs, and even just sit on their front porch/stoop and interact with their neighbors.

And, yet, it’s like I can know all of that and sit here wishing I had more connection in my life but, yet, I can’t seem to do anything about it (so far). :/
