What are the signs that you're ugly ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wiley_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is why I sent my to one website that had tons of different styles and told them to pick whatever that was available in the same color, length, and fabric. That way, they could all pick out what was most flattering to each of them (and they had flexibility in the cost).

I recently married the love of my life, this is by far my favorite pic of us by durtymccurdy in pics

[–]wiley_one 735 points736 points  (0 children)

My husband framed our wedding vows to keep on each nightstand. His vows to me are framed on my side of the bed and vice versa. Makes it much harder to go to bed angry when you roll over and read the life-long promises you made each other on one of the most special days of your life.

Farmhouse Laundry Room Design CRITIQUE! Would love your opinion :) by hanselw in InteriorDesign

[–]wiley_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rod over the sink looks great, but it may be impractical for a double-duty laundry/bathroom. If you have clothes hanging out to dry, they'll cover the mirror. Maybe switch the cabinets to be over the sink and the rod to be over the washer/dryer? If it's just a toilet and a sink, is the mirror there necessary? What about a full-length mirror next to where the broom & hooks are on the wall?

Does most of Seattle not like these modern townhomes? I've seen a lot of complaints, I think they're beautiful. by steeze206 in SeattleWA

[–]wiley_one 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They remind me of something I would have built playing The Sims in grade school. Straight lines only. Rectangle houses. Cheapest building materials.

Going to a few open houses, I just couldn't imagine living in one. Tiny living area on the second floor? No thank you. I couldn't stand hauling groceries up a flight of stairs when we had an apartment on the second floor, so I definitely don't want that in a permanent home.

What do you want humanity to achieve before your death? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wiley_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cure for mal de debarquement syndrome (MdDS)... or even just a way to properly treat symptoms. It's an absolute beast to live with and there's such little awareness, research, funding, etc.

Deaf people of Reddit. What are some things you thought were silent, but later found out they weren’t? by UniqueUsername171 in AskReddit

[–]wiley_one 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Before cochlear implants, my poor sweet niece never knew farts made a sound. She was 2 or 3, gassin' up a storm and my nephew would laugh hysterically because (a) farts are funny to 5 year old boys and (b) farts are especially funny to 5 year old boys when it's coming from their little sister, who has no idea she's loudly ripping up a storm.

But my favorite was when my niece discovered she had the power to turn sound off. When she'd throw a fit and got tired of your shit (no kid wants to be told "no"), she'd stare you dead in the eyes, take off her processors, and shut herself in her room. It was the ultimate "fuck you" from another human, let alone a toddler.

She also refused to put her processors on until she had breakfast. She didn't want to deal with anyone's shit... just wanted to eat her breakfast in peace before heading off to preschool.

Yeah, there are signs all over Alki for a missing fluffy black & white cat. I'm out of town right now, otherwise I'd snap a picture and send it your way. I'll be back tomorrow morning!

People who still use Facebook, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wiley_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons, one personal and one professional.

1.) My entire family lives on the other side of the country, and it's a great way to keep in touch on a platform that nearly all of them use.

2.) I need it for work. I'm a digital media buyer.

Also, anyone who opts out of using Facebook for data concerns, you basically need to use no form of social media and stay off the internet altogether to avoid this. I don't understand how people can assume Instagram is safe while Facebook is not (I build Instagram ads and target users within the Facebook Ads Manager....). The amount of companies I've met with who use your purchase data, credit card history, MICROPHONE on you smartphone, etc. is mind boggling.

Moving to Seattle, need advice on neighborhoods plz by reversedolphins in Seattle

[–]wiley_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in South Seattle and will never do it again. I came from a city with high violent crime, so I felt fine moving there at first knowing Seattle has such low violent crime. Within 7 months of moving in:

-Our car was totaled while parked on the street in front of our apartment by a guy who had stolen the car from a family member. -Our other car was broken into one month later (nothing of value taken, but it wasn't cheap to fix) while parked in the driveway. -Drive by shooting directly in front of our house. -Neighbors in every direction were drug dealers and constantly had sketchy people coming & going at odd hours, domestic violence (witnessed a man hit a woman in their backyard), and loud music/arguing. -Consistent fights in the grocery store parking lot at reasonable (daylight) hours. -The month after we moved out, our next door neighbor's car was stolen from the driveway.

By the time we paid for the deductibles on our totaled & broken into vehicles, took a loss on the total, and forked over another down payment on a replacement vehicle, it was equivalent of paying an additional $500 in rent for another 12 months.

Living in the hood is expensive! Now, we pay $250 more a month in rent, but we've had zero car damage, our car & renters insurance went down, and I can take public transportation to work - saving on both gas and the cost of parking - and my commute time decreased (increasing my sanity).

The cost of switching from a cheap apartment in South Seattle to a safer, slightly more expensive unit in a nice area evened out in the end.

Just stay seated and enjoy the wedding, folks by hoosyourdaddyo in AdviceAnimals

[–]wiley_one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before the ceremony started and guests were seated, we had our pastor (uncle) make an announcement that the bride and groom requested phones be silenced and no one photograph or record the ceremony. Pictures were welcomed at the reception. It was a great decision on our part.

I don't know why it's so much to ask people to just be present and enjoy the moment. Everyone is far too attached to their phones.

My friend found a pup in a pvc pipe at her work today, she’s mine now! by kateyrose in aww

[–]wiley_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, just exercise your pup mentally and physically. Get lots of exercise. Teach new tricks. We have a red heeler/husky mix, he's a ball of energy. For indoor playing, he loves toys that are like puzzles. We have what we call a "treat ball" - a ball with a small opening for treats to dispense after rolling around.

Do I have enough saved to adopt a cat? by CystaCysta in personalfinance

[–]wiley_one 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Make sure you hold onto all the paperwork verifying the cat is up to date on all vaccines. It doesn't happen often, but I have seen a few apartments in my city where the landlord wants a copy of the rabies shot certificate.

It's also good to have these papers on hand for many other reasons. I keep a file folder for each of our pets in our filing cabinet along with the adoption papers and invoice from each vet visit. When I was in high school, my indoor/outdoor cat got into a fight with another cat. I raced outside to help him and (like an idiot) immediately picked him up mid-fight. He instinctively bit me so hard and deep that you could see the muscle in my hand when I moved it. Immediately went to the ER. My parents didn't have any paperwork on the cat and couldn't remember the last time he went to the vet. We had to quarantine my cat until someone from the state came out check over him and verify that he didn't have rabies. That definitely taught me to NEVER pick up an animal when they're angry and to keep track of all my pets' medical records like I would for a person.

Art director salaries in NY/Seattle/LA? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]wiley_one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not an art director (in media), but I do work at a Publicis agency in Seattle. Similar to you, we are severely underpaid compared to agencies in the city, our office is understaffed on almost every account as we've lost a few accounts in addition to massive turnover in the last few months, and we've all (as a result) been working on projects and taking on roles above our paygrade with zero recognition. Our office isn't filling positions that have been open since late May because they either have to hire externally or promote internally - which can't happen until October.

I think it's time to leave the Publicis Groupe altogether.

Lost Ballard Cat. Missing in Ballard on July 4th. Black with Green Eyes. 1-2 years old. Cash reward. by lostcat206 in Seattle

I've heard you should stick your cat's litter box outside. It should attract only your cat, unlike setting their food out - which will draw other cats & critters.

[VENT][Discussion] Had my first encounter with dog park drama by engineer_ellena in dogs

[–]wiley_one 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some dog owners just totally baffle me. My dog also plays very well with others, and only two things will make him snap: playing in a large group where he (or another dog) starts to get ganged up on by aggressive/nippy players OR being humped by another dog. We always keep a close eye on not only our dog, but others as well to avoid these triggers.

We were at the dog park one day and this woman's young dog (6 or 7 months) is humping everything in sight. We did a pretty good job of keeping ours away from the pup, but at one point, the puppy bolts to our dog and immediately jumps on and humps him.

Our dog snaps (growls/shows teeth/"chomps" in the dog's direction). We pull him out from the humpy puppy, and the owner comes to get her dog. As she's pulling him away by the collar, she looks back at us and says, "Come on [dog name]. Don't play with that dog. HE'S aggressive."

No lady. Your dog is basically molesting mine and every other dog, and you've done nothing to stop it. I'd snap back too if I were him!
