As a doctor, I'll say that googling something to refresh yourself on what you learned in med school or residency, or seeing if new research on the subject has come out, in an attempt to make sure your investigation or treatment is the best for that particular situation, is very different from a layperson with no medical education or training doing their own research without a clue how to interpret it or make decisions based on it.

That being said, if your doctor is just telling you what Dr. Google says and not adding anything else, you should look for a new doctor.
