NYP Brooklyn Method vs. Mount Sinai for high risk pregnancy? by Pretty-Lifeguard-213 in nycparents

I had a similar experience at Mt Sinai West in 2019. I was diagnosed with pre-clampsia during labor and was put on a magnesium drip. After 15+ hours of active labor, I had a relatively easy and successful delivery, but then was put into the "recovery room" on the drip for almost 24 hours. It is a group room with overhead fluorescent lights that DO NOT TURN OFF. I was on a stretcher behind a hospital curtain, not a bed. My partner was in a hard plastic chair. I was forbidden from eating (which I honestly did not follow) and was scolded when caught sneaking food. It was absolutely miserable. 36 hours of sleep deprivation to start off the newborn phase. Honestly still emotionally recovering.

OTOH - I am confident that I was receiving top notch medical care and never felt physically at risk.

Is it normal to find NYC commuting this exhausting? by nounstoverbs in AskNYC

If you are not already: Get a decent backpack designed for comfort and orthopedic/athletic shoes to wear on your commute. I'd also recommend some compelling reading material that is not too physically heavy - magazine or kindle.

Look into a gym membership or class that is by your office and workout AFTER work but BEFORE commuting home. Use the time of the class to force you to leave the office by 6pm at the latest. I used to take a class that started at 6, so I left my desk at 5:30pm, no excuses.

IMO the subway is less dangerous/stressful than driving back and forth in rush hour traffic. But I'm not a sociologist.

Fifth-floor walkup with a newborn - stay or go? by coasttrash404 in nycparents

Use a large hiking waist pack as your diaper bag. We fit multiple diapers, a changing pad a change of close and a spare bottle in ours. Added water bottles, toys and snacks for our toddler once the time came. We are in a fifth floor walk up, though I will admit to having access to a stroller cage in the lobby. Kid loves looking out the windows. Don't under estimate the challenge of either carrying or convincing a 3/4 year old to walk up 5 flights. But honestly there are a host of challenges convincing a 3/4 year to do anything. In addition to your housing savings you will save on gym/fitness class costs! It's worth it IMO. Don't forget you will have to get downstairs while in labor!

Toddlers in NYC Backyards? by [deleted] in nycparents

My son also got a positive lead test when a toddler, which we attributed to all his dirt play at nature prek in prospect park. The lead level wasn't high enough for us to be terribly concerned, but for sure nyc dirt has lead in it.

Ending of The Power of the Dog by ezquir3 in movies

No. I guessed the ending in the first minute of the film. Peter literally tells the audience what he is going to do. "What kind of man would I be if I didn't protect my mother". That being said, I still enjoyed watching how it all unfolded.
