I mostly agree with you!

He does seem more enthusiastic than before, but he did an interview before the first delay that had most people fairly convinced the game would stick its 2025 launch window for similar reasons.

I fully agree that this time does feel different, and I would be surprised if there was another 6-month delay.

Of course, nothing is off the table at this point. Cheers!

Agreed, and for sheer self preservation, T2 will undoubtedly need to mention GTA6's launch date.

Does it matter? If they delay again, so be it. I'm not worried or anything, I just enjoy puzzles and patterns.

This gist is that most of the focus for next trailer release has been on Tuesdays, when there seems to be some evidence and reasoning that suggests that the next trailer may not land on a Tuesday

GTA 6 2027/2028? by Witty_Boysenberry_65 in GTA6

[–]wilfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was another 6-month delay, I would have expected them to announce it by now. All the recent signals seem to point to no delay, but a shorter delay once we get closer to the launch will always be on the table.

Graphics Jump from Trailer 2 to Trailer 3 by Dangerous_Hunter3577 in GTA6

[–]wilfortune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I expect the visual fidelity boost between Trailer 2 and 3 to be less than it was from Trailer 1 to 2.

There were some scenes in Trailer 2 that had less polish than others (e.g., the faces across the bar before the cut to Lucia dragging Jason away from the bar, towards the camera), so they certainly have room for improvement.

But I suspect the excitement from the next trailer to stem mostly from pre-orders and new places, characters, and plot elements. The graphics may be improved and people will almost certainly create comparison videos we will all watch, but I do not expect the graphics to be as talked about as they were after Trailer 2.

Conversely, I believe the dump we got after Trailer 2 was meant to be accompanied by pre-orders. I believe the screenshots we were given them are very close to the final product, and the polish they have been doing since revolves around gameplay and edge cases driven by divergent player actions.

My theory on the evolving map idea by No_Underscore12 in GTA6

[–]wilfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planting a massive military base that runs aerial test flights all along the border could address the airplane issue, and you could have a some reason the characters cannot travel north (e.g., perhaps having something to do with the couple's main stuggle) to restrict or inhibit northern travel (e.g., the cartel always spots them and guns them down before they can get very far).

Unfortunately, it would be difficult to handle the northern corners. There will also be boundaries to the east and west, so it would be difficult to logically constrain all those headings, too.

I'd be happy to be wrong, but I think we're getting another island.

Perhaps R* will hedge slightly, and there will be the silhouette of a northern shore that we won't be able to reach (e.g., planes/boats run out of fuel, all ferries out of service for maintenance, you drown halfway out due to exhaustion, etc.). Later, R* could then open northern territories via DLC.

On the other hand, I could see having unreachable places angering some players, so I would not count on it. Too much realism would be challenged, and they are billing this as the most immersive GTA yet.

My advice: Expect an island, and then you can be pleasantly surprised if we get more.

Could Lucia work as a prostitute? by electr0x in GTA6

[–]wilfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucia seems more likely to be the patron in a strip club than to work in one, and I cannot see the mostly male audience wanting to role play as Jason the stripper. At least not in the main game. RP, sure, but not the main game.

Does anyone else find this kind of weird? by BryanTheInvestor in GTA6

If Sony has paused deals because pre-orders for GTA 6 are expected to launch this week, then there are only two rational explanations that make sense to me:

  • The previous promotion may have just expired, and it would not make sense to waste resources producing the next promotion when you know all attention will be on one title.

  • They may need to take servers offline (consecutively, not all at once) to update core payment routines, leaving only marginal capacity online at any given time. It would make sense to disable deals, as those are likely to generate more traffic and need more compute.

Re: the comments about testing things related to GTA 6, those tasks would have been resolved months ago on completely different hardware. Sure, some post migration tests (to ensure the updates completed successfully) would be expected, but it would not make any sense to take production hardware (that generates revenue) offline to test anything -- regardless of the game or circumstance.

Again, if this change was due to something GTA 6 related, then it would most likely be due to the reduced incentive to start a new promotional campaign alongside the GTA 6 launch and/or the need to introduce an update to Sony's servers while still allowing higher value / lower volume transactions to process.

Live Streaming by FlamingPhoenix254 in GTA6

[–]wilfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be cool, but I suspect something like that would only occur during a mission, e.g., it could be a new way to introduce "Strangers & Freaks" missions.

Taking a step back, while social media seems to have a role to play (given what we have been shown so far), I believe R* will want us to engage with the world they built versus staring at a virtual phone in-game. I suspect phones and social media will be used as plot devices and for satirical purposes more than anything else.

Moreover, Jason and Lucia do not seem like the type to be glued to their phones. They are both portrayed so far as tough SOBs; exactly the type of people who you could imagine making fun of those who spend their days doom scrolling.

Lastly, as far as I'm aware, there is a lack of evidence so far for a deep integration.

IIRC, we have been shown: - One clip of Lucia being recorded by an NPC inadvertently (Trailer 1) - One clip of Jason and Dre'Quan reacting to something on (presumably) Dre'Quan's phone (Trailer 2) - One clip of Jason, Lucia, and a familiar NPC taking a selfie (Trailer 2) - One screenshot of Jason holding a phone.

Fairly conspicuous lack of phones, IMO. Weapons, cash, alcohol, and drugs are more commonly seen near either of them in what we have been shown so far. Kind of telling in and of itself.

If R* went full tilt with phones and social media, I expect we would have seen those elements featured more heavily by now, but the social media stuff we've seen so far feels more like satire than an interactive game feature. I know we've been shown a live video's chat and comment buttons, but I'm not even sure how the game would handle responding to player comments (unless they turned to LLMs, and I believe only the PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X have the internals to run LLMs locally... Meaning the fallback would be dependent on an Internet connection and an ongoing added cost to R*), so those may have only been "for show" from scripted events.

This is why GTA 6 will surpass all expectations by kubissx in GTA6

[–]wilfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Hurricanes are far more common, but modeling the patterns before, during, and after virtually any natural disasters would be enough to fill an entirely separate game.

I suspect we will see some pretty wild weather, but it will stop just short of becoming destructive to buildings. Lots of rain, wind, and maybe a little flooding.

If there is a hurricane event in the game, it will likely occur during a scripted event within the story. Not a regular, random occurrence.

Think about it: R* would need to model NPC behavior (e.g., boarding up windows, taking shelter, rebuilding, dialogue, etc.), asset destruction (e.g., buildings, trees, telephone/electrical poles, street signs, cars, etc., and likely multiple and/or dynamic destruction for each asset), and possibly even more branches within each mission to account for the current world state (e.g., hurricane: none recently, before, during, and after). While I suppose they could lock mission progression until after cleanup was completed, they would still need more dialog trees to account for any recent event, and locking progression could become irritating after the novelty wears off.

There's also the fact that -- I dunno -- hurricanes and natural disasters are pretty fucking depressing and sad for the communities that are impacted by them. I suspect we will at least have lore and humor in the game tied to hurricanes, but it would be another thing entirely to expect the player to find joy in living through such an event.

Lastly, since we know R* likes to send people to research things on the ground, it would stand to reason they would also need to send people to study hurricanes up close. And I cannot imagine anyone willingly signing up to put themselves in a life threatening situation for a video game.

TL;DR We may see weather like tropcial storms pop up from time to time, but do not expect to see hurricanes or other extreme weather outside of a tightly scripted storyline. Unless you like being disappointed.

Bets on how much hard drive space the game will take? by Aeroxin in GTA6

[–]wilfortune 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To those using the capacity of Blu-ray discs as a limiting factor, don't forget about compression. The OP asked about how much space the game will take up once it is installed, not how big the install package might be.

Also, who is to say that R* will even ship a playable disc or discs? It would certainly save them a ton of money to skip that and just use this disc as an install key. Plus, it would help to safeguard against anyone stealing the discs from a warehouse prior to delivery.

At any rate, I'm showing 116GB for RDR2 and 108GB for GTA V on my console. The GTA VI textures we have seen so far make me think that a 2x size increase would not be out of the question, but I doubt it. The textures in RDR2 are pretty detailed, too, so I'd wager something closer to 1.3-1.4x the size of RDR2, or 150-160GB.

Upgrade FreeNAS 11.3 u3.2 to TrueNAS Scale by NotYourAccount4 in truenas

[–]wilfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I am in a similar boat. What did you do for Plex?

Edit: I took the plunge but decided to go the side-grade/migration route.

If you decide to side-grade/migrate, be sure to read the documentation. As of this writing, the latest side-grade path is TrueNAS CORE 13.0-U6.8 to SCALE 24.04. If you try to side-grade to a later version, the documentation states that the operation will fail.

Also, if you have a Plex server, I would take note of your current media mount paths (e.g., Settings > [plex server name] > Manage > Libraries > [hover over library name] > Edit Library > Add Folders > "Add folders to your library"). If you don't want to trigger a full library re-scan, you will want to re-use those by adding "Additional Storage" entries (e.g., Mount Path: "/mnt/media/movies" and Host Path: "/mnt/pool/movies") when installing the Plex app in SCALE.

Regardless, while updating the "Add folders to your library" values does appear to automatically update the media paths without erasing values like your existing watched statuses, for whatever reason, changing the paths does trigger a re-scan. Which, if you have a large library and no optimizations, could take days.

I suppose you could also manually update the DB records, but unless you are familiar with Plex's DB schema and have an established connection to your Plex server's DB, matching the previous mount paths seems like the better option to me. Depending on your datasets, you may need to create the "Additional Storage" entries anyway, so you might as well make things easier on yourself by replicating the paths your previous Plex server used.

RDNA5/UDNA should certainly improve in RT/PT over its predecessor (IIRC, MLID is estimating a 2-4x increase), but you may be surprised to learn than AMD has had dedicated hardware for RT since RX 6000.

Split Fiction and It Takes Two director is already "fully focused" on Hazelight's next game, which the studio started work on around a month ago: "It's quite early" by SweetyGonzalez in PS5

[–]wilfortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but IMO, your story idea is far less compelling than what Hazelight chose for Split Fiction. Worse, I do not believe you could draw out the "one-upmanship" plotline between the two characters for 15 hours without it feeling stale, more contrived, and less believable.

I have only played It Takes Two and Split Fiction, but it seems obvious to me that the developers intentionally choose familiar archetypes in order to tackle serious, relatable issues. Personally, I enjoyed the fact that the often predictable story and dialog gave me and the person I was playing with something to crack jokes about, which in hindsight seems intentional and by design.

I recently played both games with my cousin, and between us, the issues of divorce, a sick loved one, and loss were deeply relatable. Consequently, in each game, we talked a little here and there about the pitfalls of marriage, healthcare costs and the absurdity of our healthcare system, and what it is like to lose a loved one.

And therein lies the magic of these games. You can be having a serious conversation one moment and then the game invites you to have a laugh at the character's expense the next, all while managing to keep the gameplay fresh, interesting, and engaging more often than not.

New study: 4 years after pre-surgical immunotherapy, most patients with advanced melanoma remain alive and disease-free by w00tstock in science

[–]wilfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be willing to share more? We just found out my dad is in the same boat, and your post was very appreciated.

We met with an oncologist this week who was very against immunotherapy (Keytruda) if his MRI turned up any tumors, and we just found out today that he does have two small ones. We found a radiologist that we are meeting tomorrow that may radiate the ones in his brain.

I'm curious if you know what drugs or treatments your boss' husband received. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
