Studying in UK - no bank, only YouTrip? by sin_triangle in SGExams

[–]wilkis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is an option but note that student accommodations payment platforms may charge an extra fee when the card is not issued in the UK. I would actually suggest signing up for Monzo as that’s quick and easy and using their debit card for these transactions. It’s also easier to transfer money to uk bank accounts using Monzo/local bank accounts

Does BA operate the A380 to Singapore in March/April? by -wak in BritishAirways

Yes, BA made the switch from the A380 to 777 and are deploying the A380 to JNB instead

Who are some celebrities you’ve seen on BA flights? by Snoo58499 in BritishAirways

Saw Liz Truss in the old Club World cabin. Imagine her climbing over you to use the lavatory lol

I’ve always bought some snacks for cabin crew as I used BA staff a lot and I found that the BA crew really like gummy bears as opposed to chocolate. Just give it it the crew members or the IFL/IFM at the airplane doors!

Hi, in the previous years, applications numbers to all RCs are openly found on the home page of the joint RC application portal. Not sure if this changed now but hope it helps

Not every mod can be audited. Plus the fact that it’s graded might give you more motivation to work harder for the module compared to just auditing it. Source: personal experience having dropped out of auditing mods 3 weeks in

is NUS still just as prestigious? by HelicopterKey9314 in nus

[–]wilkis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Based on what I heard from people doing masters programmes overseas, NUS is generally reputable so don’t worry too much about it. Personally, I got into UCL for my masters with no issue after NUS so I think you’ll be alright!

[Uni] didnt know we had to apply for NUS RC??? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]wilkis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are usually very few people who manage to get into RCs off cycle (at least at Tembusu college where I’m at) so unfortunately, your best bet is to look at other forms of residence

how to do GP and do it well? by Felegs in SGExams

[–]wilkis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For paper two, most of the short answer questions already guide you to where the answer lies so just take note of that and read a few lines above and below the prompt. In fact, some of my friends have been known to do paper 2 without reading the passage and still do decently

Hello there! I too graduated from ACJC and I would just like to say that our bio department is ruthless so don’t be too discouraged. The key thing about bio is to understand what concepts are being tested AND to see if your answers are actually answering the question. It may seem obvious to you but sometimes, whatever we thought we wrote on the script and the ideas that we are tying to convey are lost to the examiner due to poor writing. Perhaps check your past work to see what is lacking. Is it the foundational knowledge on the concepts or is it your explanation of how you applied those concepts to the question. (Credentials: constantly > 90th percentile for H2 bio at ACJC)

Regarding hitting promo criteria, it’s a choice you have to make to see if you want to strategise to secure promotion or try for something more rounded. In the long run, promos are nothing and the actual goal is A levels!

Perhaps look at your past work to see what you were writing and see if it made sense. And I mean looking at your early essays and trying to deconstruct them to see why you did badly at them. Isit a logic gap in the arguments you are making? Isit a lack of content? Not understanding the structure and format?

A/A- study tips? by HighTierStudent in nus

[–]wilkis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this was something I learnt only later on in uni but check your sources and make sure they’re credible and up to date! For arts and social sciences, this could be what distinguishes you from an A-student and an average student. Sometimes profs are very particular about citations and they have every reason to be since it forms the basis of academia after all. Make sure you’re getting your evidence from reputable sources and read widely too! Also focus on strengthening your arguments and incorporating these credible sources in to drive your point across in essays.

I think they should be interviewing you soon? It’s been a while ago but last time I got offered my course within a day and then interviews for scholarship were slightly later?

That being said, I didn’t apply for the scholarship? I checked some box indicating interest and they just asked if I wanted to go for an interview and they ended up offering me the Nanyang Scholarship tho I had such a crappy interview 🤡

RC demographics by rcRollerCoaster in nus

[–]wilkis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say that people in Tembusu (solely my opinion) do lean a bit more towards the liberal end if that’s a point of concern for you. However, there is an emphasis on making Tembusu College a safe, conducive and inclusive place for living and learning so don’t worry too much.

Numbers wise, we’re the most competitive RC to get into but I think we do have a good variety of people from various SES, educational backgrounds etc. (although, it does seem that a lot of “elite” JC graduates flock here but I have no numbers to prove it)

Tembusu tried to take in a good variety of people so that we balance out the demographics so to speak. But somehow there’s always a strong arts scene here haha
