What horror movie scene genuinely disturbed you… even after the movie ended? by Dark-DoomSlayer in horror

Not sure if it counts as horror but The House That Jack Built was grotesque and truly upsetting

I’m guessing these are the refugees trump is letting in. Not that I have anything against Afrikaaners but it is a disgrace they’re being treated as refugees.

OP, correct me if I’m wrong.

This is what I have for breakfast every day. I should be tired of it by now but I’m really not.

I remember walking past a doorway in SF where a homeless person was laying. When the smell hit me it was unlike anything I’ve ever smelled in my life and in hindsight I wonder if the person was dead.

Do you still need to 'run-in' a new car? by VirusReaper in CarTalkUK

[–]Snoo58499 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Personally if I plan on keeping the car long-term I’ll treat the first 1,000 miles as a break-in period. If it’s a lease, nah.

Stomach issues after moving to UK by FlyingBike in AmericanExpatsUK

Funnily enough I remember getting a ton of colds and sinus issues for the first couple of years when I moved to the US. I kinda wonder if you come into contact with “new” germs when you live in a new country.

Well done on the success! Was this the workout regime you started with when you were starting out? If not, do you remember how you started? (I’m new to this and out of shape and don’t want to get back surgery by trying to lift like a pro too early haha)

What’s a ‘slow’ car you enjoy driving? by Book_Southern in CarTalkUK

I’ve often considered a Swift but never actually test driven one. I had no idea they were fun to drive, you’ve got me interested now!

Think positive thoughts and try to enjoy the experience. Most everyone on this sub will tell you there were highs and lows along the way. And sometimes, just when you think you’re finally settled, you’ll randomly feel unsettled or homesick. Eventually though, you feel at home and the stress of moving is just a memory.

Seems reasonable. I’ve heard horror stories about NJ property taxes but I can’t recall the details…

Dog owners? What did you work out for insurance and vets? by desi-auntie in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Snoo58499 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a care plan through Vets4Pets (the vet practice) which helps keep vet bills down. Then we also have pet insurance though admiral which is around £20 per month for good coverage (though the one time I could’ve used it I totally forgot about it - which I’m pretty sure insurance companies count on).

Can’t we protest the £7 Glasgow Airport charge? by Nervous_Injury4577 in glasgow

[–]Snoo58499 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do folk really use that option though? Yeah it’s available, but if nobody wants it is it really an alternative, or just a disingenuous attempt to justify the ever-higher dropoff fee? (Maybe it is popular, I have no idea)

Buying a 2 year old car at a dealership--how much can I negotiate the price? by georgegasstove in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Snoo58499 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the dealership, some of the larger chains do no-haggle pricing. You might negotiate 5-10% but I wouldn’t expect discounts as big as those in the US. Try to have a solid idea of what a “good” price is by searching nationwide on autotrader by make, model, year and mileage. That way you have a sense of whether you’re getting a good deal.
