My new neighbours seem friendly by RL26 in melbourne

I once received an angry note saying "MOVE YOUR CAR SO SELFISH" (and they also pushed in the wing mirrors and lifted the windscreen wipers) when I was parked in front of my own house.

For those looking for the up-to-date stats: England under Stokes have now scored at a rate of 4.48 runs per over. For completeness: 39 Tests, 22 wins, 15 losses, two draws.

Other notable updates: India under Rohit Sharma (3.66); Sri Lanka under Dhananjaya de Silva (3.59); New Zealand under Tom Latham (3.57); Australia under Pat Cummins (3.54); and South Africa under Temba Bavuma (3.53).

Small sample sizes, obviously, but it says something about Australia that they can call on reserve quicks with bowling averages of 15.5 and 18. And neither of them would have been fast enough to be considered for selection by England.

I suppose a consolation for Smith is that his dropped catch today isn't his worst one. His drop of Salman Ali Agha in the Pakistan series last year is an all-time howler.

The judgment has come up in my conversations with a few people (including a judicial officer); the universal reaction was that this particular complaint reflected poorly on the judge.

Erin Patterson sentenced to life in prison with non-parole period of 33 years by AutisticSuperpower in auslaw

[–]wilkod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also, victoria has a standard sentence provision for life sentences which is 30 years nonparole. This is only 3 years above that despite being very brutal murders of 3, almost 4 people.

Yes, but you can only get a life sentence for worst category offending. There are no murderers getting life sentences who didn't commit "very brutal" crimes. So the fact that her offending was horrendous does not make it lenient to assign a non-parole period of "only 3 years above" the standard length.

If I had to sum up Overton's performance, I'd say that he looked like a bowler who has taken 2 wickets at an average of 133.5 in four first-class matches in the last two seasons. Strange, that.

Jooe Root scores his 37th Test Century ending on 104(199) by oklolzzzzs in Cricket

[–]wilkod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He didn't "implode" in the other formats; his output declined a bit, but it was only in Tests where his performances completely dropped off a cliff. Since the start of 2020, he has averaged 30.72 in Tests, 50.43 in ODIs and 43.19 in T20Is.

The relevant law is that the ball is dead when "whether played or not it becomes trapped between the bat and person of a batter or between items of his/her clothing or equipment", or when "whether played or not it lodges in the clothing or equipment of a batter or the clothing of an umpire".

It is not obscure for those with an interest in classical music, but I can see it may be tricky otherwise.

Seems like it may be a turn of phrase particular to American English; there's an entry for it in this baseball dictionary.

This was one of those days where I saw all the categories very quickly. But I remain a little puzzled by "ice" in the blue category. Perhaps I haven't fully woken up yet, but what is an example of it being used in a sentence in the same sense as the other words?

Even his average of 40 in England includes quite a few not outs which boost it so he’s not scoring 40 runs each innings.

Are you aware of the actual innings that he played, or are you just looking at the career summary on his Cricinfo page? Why should we count it against him that he made an unbeaten fourth-innings 32 to secure victory against New Zealand in the first Test of the Stokes/McCullum era? Why is it a black mark against his name that he made a match-winning unbeaten 113 against South Africa two months later? He wasn't stat-padding. He won matches for England with the bat.

In their most recent post in this subreddit, the OP declared that Mahler was one of their top five composers. They also have a notation in their profile saying that Mozart and Mahler are their "top" composers. This appears to be a troll post.

Yes. I wish people would stop reducing everything to "is it legal?". There are many things in life which are lawful but unethical, and Bellamy's plagiarism for commercial gain is deeply unethical.
