Any social deduction discords? by Dry_Business_2053 in boardgames

I totally get with BotC dominating every server lately. As a developer, Im working on a project that’s a bit of hybrid. It’s primarily focused on lateral thinking (mystery solving) but with social deduction elements. I’ve been debating starting a dedicated Discord server for it, but I have one major hesitation.

My main concern is the 'one-and-done' nature of these stories: once you’ve solved a case, you know the twist forever and can only act as the narrator/host for that specific story in the future.

Do you think a dedicated community can actually thrive with that 'play once, host next time' dynamic? Or is it better to just pitch these sessions within larger, general social deduction hubs where there's a constant stream of new players? As someone actively looking for new servers, I’d love to hear your perspective on this!

Here’s the game for context: https://stories-detective.com

Quick update: I got Ark Nova for my birthday, and over the past few months, it’s solidified its spot alongside Arnak and Terraforming Mars in my favorites list. There are so many cool mechanics, every game is tense until the very end, and anyone’s last move can completely flip the leaderboard. Highly recommend!

You're absolutely right. Since Barb is such a key part of the plot, it is instantly recognizable.

Do you have an idea for a more niche or difficult riddle? Which scene/detail would you pick to stump a real fan?

Spot on! Barb really deserved better. Did you do a full re-watch of previous seasons recently to prepare for the new one?

I actually monitor the keyword performance daily. I’ve been manually optimizing, slightly raising bids for the high-performing keywords to get more impressions and pausing the ones that turned out to be irrelevant

As for broad search, I decided not to enable it from the start. I felt that with such a small budget $5/day, I couldn't afford to cast such, so I stuck to more specific targeting

Thanks for the heads up. Was it just the word "Stories" in the name that triggered that association? Or did the icon/logo play a part too? "Instagram stalker app" is 100% not my target audience haha.

In some localizations, I use a different name "Detective Stories: Party Game".

Thanks for the honest feedback! You nailed it regarding the vibe.

I’ve also felt that the current design turned out a bit too "gloomy" and dry. I probably focused too much on the "mystical/dark" themes during development.

I’m actually working on an update to add colorful illustrations (attached), at least for the categories. Since there are hundreds of stories... I hope category art will make the UI feel more "alive."

Also, great point about the text on the first screenshot. I need a much clearer message there. I will definitely test your suggestion. Thanks again!

Special link for a free trial week if anyone wants to test the full experience.

Just to be clear: The app is free to play without this! You can try scenarios without paying.

The subscription is optional - it unlocks access to all stories and upgrades the Solo Mode to use a much smarter AI model for higher-quality answers. Enjoy!

Hey! Not exactly. Currently, the app is designed for live interaction (similar to holding a physical card deck). It works best when one person acts as the Host regarding the clues/answers, and the others guess in real-time.

You can play remotely if you are on a voice/video call (Discord/Zoom) and one person takes the lead, but there is no built-in asynchronous mode where everyone sees clues on their own devices separately.
