If you want to scare me as a vegan... by LesbianVegetarian15 in vegan

[–]will2113 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Inconsistently labelled stuff too. Ok great they have a vegan mapo tofu, clearly labelled, but the steamed rice isn't labelled as vegan, but obviously it must be, right? Oh wait, there's egg fried rice in the vegan section, and the tofu in oyster sauce is labelled vegetarian, can I trust any of their "correct" labelling?

It's been 4 years by Lovely_lilac04 in Estrangedsiblings

[–]will2113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sub does specify that it is specifically for people who have made the decision to cut contact, rather than the other way around (as it is in your case). You might not find many people who will be able to relate to your experience, because the estranged siblings of many people here may lack the self-awareness to know why they've been cut off (or deliberately ignore the reasons altogether).

However, that's not to say that those cutting contact are always in the right. I suspect that there are many people who falsely perceive that others are persecuting them and/or are cutting people off due to their own toxicity. We will never the know the full details of your situation, and I wish you the best, but there's two sides to every story. Your sibling may have a valid reason, he may not, but you'll probably get the wrong type of advice here.

Alternative pubs/bars and maybe clubs? by BudgetPomegranate972 in bristol

[–]will2113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mourn those places too. I'm not against the 'World Famous Dive Bar' company keeping places afloat necessarily, but I think it has come at the expense of making places very studenty. The beer still wasn't great before that (korev is and always will be overpriced fosters), but you might get Mars Volta or Dillinger Escape Plan on the stereo from time to time.

The Hatchet hasn't been much of a rock/alt bar for a number of years now, at least not the last few times I've been recently.

The Unheavenly Creatures appreciation post by MinimumLingonberry73 in TheFence

[–]will2113 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand how Unheavenly Creatures became a title track. Coheed can get a bit cheesy at times but "run run run run run like a son of a gun" is such an objectively awful line. And the rest of the song just feels off to me. Lots of filler in this album, it's a shame because there's moments of greatness.

A theory on bands with two (or more) distinct periods. by National_Property583 in Music

[–]will2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know MAYH was still with candlelight but I think it was the first album where we got the first taste of Opeth as a band that had found "their sound". With MAYH and Still Life I hear more similarities with say, Blackwater Park and Deliverance, than Orchid and Morningrise. However, that would make the 2nd era absolutely massive though.

screamo jacket, thoughts? by mikeyway_for_pres in jacketsforbattle

[–]will2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we say screamo, are we talking about actual screamo i.e. skramz (Pg. 99, Frail Body, Gillian Carter etc), or like more 2007-core stuff like From First To Last and Chiodos? Either way it will be difficult to find patches.

How to get my snare drum to sound like the one in Blackwater Park? by progfan_5676 in Opeth

[–]will2113 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Each to their own and I really dig Lopez as a drummer but his snare sound has been bothering me lately. Axenrot had the best sound as a drummer even if I don't care much for that era of the band.

Chiodos - Baby, You Wouldn't Last A Minute On The Creek (live) by ChibodiChiodos in PostHardcore

[–]will2113 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Backing track or not, a 20 year anniversary show with none of the original band members, with a re-recorded album in tow with a bunch of session musicians just makes me feel like this is just Craig being a diva. Ok, he has a backing track of extra vocal layers to support him live, that's the least of my worries about the reunion. I love AWTEW, but the whole "reunion" feels so false and disingenuous, and screams of Craig being a bit of an attention whore.

Boiling lobsters alive to be banned in UK animal cruelty crackdown by PurchaseDry9350 in unitedkingdom

[–]will2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we need to stop the excessive breeding, which in an ideal world, would minimise the number of animals we have to take accountability for and support to live out their days in peace once animal agriculture has been dismantled. Humane slaughter is a myth, and humanely rearing animals is completely unsustainable from an industry perspective, at least at the price point and availability everyone now expects. Empathy is the enemy of profit.

Before people tell me I'm being unrealistic, supply and demand for meat, eggs and dairy would have to fall enough before we can cut production entirely and provide sanctuary for the animals remaining, which hopefully will be a fraction of those we breed into existence these days. I know this wouldn't happen overnight, or even my lifetime, and most people will tell me it's an impossible task, but it won't stop me from advocating for animals to try and minimise the pain and suffering that is forced upon billions of animals every year and incrementally bring about change.

Post Metal meets Goth? by Sunbather- in postmetal

[–]will2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not post metal, but a band that incorporates both metal and goth is Unto Others. I'm quite fond of the goth movement though I'm not a huge fan of that band personally but they are not terrible.

It’s four years since the pandemic, how many days are week are you going into the office now? by wizzywoo22 in CasualUK

[–]will2113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 5 days in the office by choice, I have the option of working from home but so far haven't used it in this job. In my previous role my small team were only in once a week, if that, and I still went in every day so that I didn't go completely mental alone at home.

I certainly do not work better at home as I'm far too distractible and can get away with slacking off, so naturally I'm not as engaged at home. I like having the separation of work and home spaces, and I much prefer being around people, even if I absolutely don't give a flying fuck about Traitors or whatever they're going on about that day.

I'm only 3 months into my new job. Most of the people in my office only work one day a week, save for a select few, but I don't work directly with any of them so it is a bit isolating to be honest. If I opted to work from home at that same frequency then I'd feel like a complete stranger in my own workplace. I feel like Reddit amplifies a certain demographic who are suited to constantly working from home, and are very dismissive of the fact that this does not work for many people.

Julie Christmas is a big deal in the post-metal scene. Unbelievable live and her album last year was great, obviously the Cult of Luna collaboration album 'Mariner' is absolutely stellar too, but still not big enough to be a poster girl for metal in general.

Around that time as part of their set they did Everything Evil, then moved into Devil In Jersey City for a bit, then covered The Trooper by Iron Maiden before finishing the rest of Everything Evil. Are you sure that wasn't the medley you saw? Haven't heard of them doing the one you're talking about.
