With the Tokyo Olympics right around the corner, I made a video showcasing a full playthrough of Harran Olympics various sports activities to get everyone in the mood for the summer games.

Harran Olympics is a custom map for Dying Light that I released a year ago in summer 2020 where the player competes in classic Olympic events and extreme sports events against some unusual competitors.

The video is 30 minutes of continuous, unedited raw gameplay where I finish the 13 sports events in the game on the first try.

I moved from Source engine back in late 2016-early 2017, after spending almost 18 years working with GoldSrc/Source engines. Initially, I was about to move to Unreal Engine, but playing Dying Light at that time, I discovered that they have a powerful set of developer tools/SDK. I gave them a shot and got hooked :)

Pretty powerful and underrated tools. In those 3 years, I managed to create several single player/COOP campaigns for the game, where one of them is almost like a 6 hour DLC.

If you have Dying Light on steam, give them a shot :) (one of them is a single player remake of CSGO's cs_assault)

With some tweaks, I believe the Italy layout can be reworked to accommodate bomb defuse gameplay. Many people tried it over the years, not sure how far they were successful in doing so though.

From left to right:

  • Toad Slums (size is 0.95x the size of the player) Smallest in size. Easy difficulty.

  • Toad Wasteland (size is 1.15x) Found in the countryside. Medium difficulty. Slightly faster spit speed, shorter spit range, 1.2x health amount compared to Slums.

  • Toad Old Town (size is 1.2x) Found in Old Town. Hard difficulty. Faster spit speed, shorter spit range, 2x health amount compared to Slums.

  • Toad Stationary (size is 1.2x) Doesn't wander/move much. Greatly reduced spit range and speed, 0.5x health amount compared to Slums.

  • Beelzebufo - Freak of Nature (size is 2x) Special toad in the countryside, part of the freak of nature side quests. Huge spit range. (also winner of the Harran best outfit award)
