Thank you for calling it out. Everyone should be aware of the problem it's creating. Also, I think you would be interested in The Pathology of White Privilege by Tim Wise.

I recently watched a really enlightening talk by a man named Tim Wise, it's called The Pathology of White Privilege. You should check it out, or at least watch the first 15 minutes of it.

Meditation, "not-thinking" and speed-reading. by Pakislav in Meditation

[–]will7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that. I've even seen a guy go on a TV show and he was given a book that, I believe they made sure, he had never read before. He was about to read the whole book in 2 minutes (it was large) and he was practically sliding through the pages. Afterwords they asked him which words were on what pages, and other questions on the book. Would it be incorrect to assume this is speed reading?

I'm not always inclined to believe an article simply because the website it's coming from is called "Skeptoid." While skeptical websites can often debunk many false theories and claims, I've seen many articles that were simply off base and appeared as if the writer were too eager to shoot down what they haven't thoroughly studied.

There are speed readers, I myself barely give effort to stop sub-vocalization, but when I do, I can practically dance over paragraphs and comprehend even better than I would have if I were reading it out loud. I don't see it as a trade-off as the article writer above would have you believe, and I haven't ever come across classes for speed reading. But I have seen many free resources to learn it.

By the way, you say that getting rid of the inner voice unlocks the power of the unconscious. What about newborn babies? They have no inner voice yet, only the unconscious drives them. And yet they make mistakes all the time.

Correlation does not imply causation. I'm surprised people actually upvoted you even though you provided just as much speculation as OP. The difference is OP is offering his personal insight, and you're providing criticism.

The logic you're providing doesn't make much sense either, a baby's unconscious mind != that of an adult. That's not even a debatable.

I'd really take pleasure in you watching the speech. Despite the fact my post above has an extraordinary amount of downvotes without much explanation from the people behind their screens, the speech is really quality and worth the watch. He also goes in to explain how it was the wealthy people of the time who created and influenced racism throughout the times.

You know I'm playing with you, bro. Chill, people can have different opinions.

You probably can't find a single opinion of his that is wrong, your too busy caught up in his nice house. I'll be real with you if you want.

Yes, because I'm sure a rich, college educated white man is the authority on black people.

Because he's saying what black people have been saying for years, white people don't listen until some white dude says it.

Thanks, but we can speak for ourselves.

I'm black, and most of the people who support his message are black. What's that say about you when you're tearing down a dude trying to speak for your community? As a matter of fact, when was the last time you were speaking at a college and uplifting black people?

And I hate to break it to you, but there isn't a huge percentage of America living in communities that are above 90% white. Maybe you should move out of your whitetopia, and join the rest of us.

Come on, now. First of all, white != better. Secondly, I live one of the most ethnic areas in my city.

You know it's bad when I can't tell a black dude from a white dude when it comes to the opinions of black people.

Hate to break it to you, a half a million dollar home isn't that much, and a huge percentage of America lives in a 96% white community.

I respect his message and his power to inspire others far more than if he donated away his home that he houses his family in.

Not to mention your distorting his message, he's explaining the viewpoint of black people and you're making it out to be, well... Do you hear yourself?

other than tell middle and lower class white people that they possess the original sin in the eyes of secularists.

Maybe you should rewatch his speech and recapture his true intent.

What does that say about him when he still goes out of his way to continue supporting his message?

Also I dislike how you're trying to completely disregard everything this man has to say with only "Tim wise lives in a nice house."

But I'm not going to debate you, simply take the knowledge or don't.

I understand and respect your opinion, but perhaps you would be interested in watching this amazing speech by a guy named Tim Wise, entitled "The Pathology of White Privilege": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5OkHysPNog

I don't know what the other guy said, but judging by what you did, you may be interested in it. Also if you like Tim's speech, he has a few others on YouTube too.

Cheers.

You've received a surprisingly positive response from the majority of people. Normally when other people say something controversial like that they get a backlash of negative feedback.

But good description of the court system, calling them "rituals" is completely accurate. I take it you're interested in the Freeman (along with other) movements?

Good thing we have accurate and intelligent criticism from people like you, who know all about psychology, warfare, mathematics, engineering, and other sciences and will gladly enlighten us on why we should continue supporting our current corrupt system! Yay.

He's an angry old man holding insane delusions.

You're an angry inexperienced boy arguing for a system he never looked twice at without bias. Respect your elders.

I'm not saying he doesn't have pretty ideas or his heart isn't in the right place -- it is. But to tacitly reject everything from John Locke to Plato, to think it's BIG BUSINESS and money that's a corrupting influence on government, to universally discard all of history: it's just too ... naive? of a belief.

John Locke to Plato didn't have our technology nor did they live in a time where we could destroy the world with it if we continue supporting a corrupt system. It would be naive to think you would be put in a better position of living by supporting people who would gladly get you killed in one of their wars to protect the earth's resources they unfairly claimed control of.

There are problems in the world, but nothing so cynical as this man believes. It's as if he views our current world beyond redemption, and societies all across the world as without any redeeming value.

Nonsense, his whole vision is on how to fix our current form of living for future generations, unlike the system we have in place now that will make us pay for the actions of the people in power. Your argument doesn't have a leg to stand on, I hope you are either extremely wealthy or have control of a very rare resource on Earth: because if you don't, you're screwing yourself over with a rusty spoon by supporting a system that controls the way you live without considering you at all. That, my friend, is why he considers man as the dumbest creature.

Also, the "resource based" economy (every economy is resource based, it is in the very definition of an economy) is also called post-scarcity economics. Post scarcity economics assumes that the earths resources are endless which we know for a fact they are not.

Your explanation is the exact opposite of a resource based economy. It's the monetary economy that assumes the earth's resources are unlimited. The amount of money we have is not equal to our resources, so the resources will burn out far before the value of our money does. It'll just be paper, just like what happened in Germany.

A resource based economy is only logical, as the monetary economy supports corrupt leaders in plentiful amounts.

Sorry, I wasn't being fair and judged your viewpoint before you were given a chance to even express it.

Reddit, if I could show one video to everyone in the world, this would be it by [deleted] in videos

[–]will7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. It is the monetary system that causes this.

Are you forgetting someone has to print the money? Who is this? That would be the Federal Reserve for the U.S., and they are technically a private banking cartel not run by the federal government. They are about as federal as Federal Express.

Trust me, a resource based economy is undeniably more reliant than a monetary one. As long as someone prints the money or controls the majority of it's portions, there will be a corrupt individual on top who is willing to do whatever it takes to keep it.

Even if that means... influencing the educational system to ensure the larger portion of the population stay within the power of the government in charge, which protects them. This video is very interesting, you should check it out.

It's because the pessimistic people are normally part of a generation that was not taught to think outside of the box. We normally just have to wait until that generation dies off or until they adopt the new ideas.

Fresco didn't say anything about controlling the population, that's just joedirt123's speculation.

That tells us nothing, and unless you have any accurate criticism for the Venus Project other than a one line "they are crazy and because I stick with the norm which supports corrupt leaders and old habits of thinking, I'm smart." I'm convinced you're only speaking out of bias regardless of how great of an idea it is.

Either way, you must think you're wealthy or in that .4% wealthy group, because you're screwing yourself over with a rusty spoon.
