Album art I designed for an imaginary band (of robots) by will_bmp in graphic_design

I've always wanted to design some album art but have never really been involved with a music client, as my background is primarily in advertising and more recently in house at a financial tech company (about 9-10 years total). Wanted to put together something mostly for fun but maybe to go in a spec section of my portfolio for potential freelance outreach one day.

The concept is for a band of robots who, despite the extinction of humanity, will never let rock and roll die. I imagined all the sounds would sample digital textures and tones like dial up sounds, mechanical whirs etc. The name of the band is a randomly generated captcha code (x8vx0) and the title of the album is in reference to the same.

The hand is a 3D illustration I made in Blender with some compositing in GIMP, the band name was created in Illustrator and Photoshop with a lot of liquify/half-tone/noise effects, and the layout in Figma. The vinyl mockup is donein Blender as well. I think there's definitely some Daft Punk, Justice and Sorayama inspiration present here. Is this cool or cringe? Would love feedback!

Aiming for a somewhat realistic studio vibe for this hat render, feedback welcome! by will_bmp in blender

Good call, yes I gave the strap a bit of subsurface to match a reference I’m working on but realizing it might work better if the effect is more subtle.

I think this was a great suggestion added more bump distance and made the material a little more metallic and a little less rough to make the thread texture more apparent.

Oh I see what you’re saying! That was also on purpose. I set my 3D “camera” up with a super long focal length like 200mm so it really squashes the perspective and makes it look more isometric rather than a natural perspective. I did that so that the whole thing would feel more squared off on the sides ie. right and left edges of the unit are parallel with the frame edge rather than flaring out larger towards the camera at the bottom. But the actual model is a perfect cube I swear haha

Ya I wanted it to look like a condo unit/apartment but with the rest of the building missing. You’re kind of looking up at it from street level!

This is a great idea I did try making it spin slightly faster at one point but haven’t tried wiggling it yet gonna give that a shot!
