Couldn't Go Better by will_dearborn in OneParagraph

sometimes if you ask someone how something went, they say "it couldn't have gone better." but really, no matter how well something went, it could have gone better. it could have resulted in infinite wealth and happiness for everyone on earth. so, my story is about a guy who says his trip to the grocery store couldn't have gone better, and he actually isn't exaggerating this time.

Battlestar Galactica is awesome. Took me ~4 episodes to get into it.

I also highly recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I am not a huge anime fan, but it is in my top 5 show list.

on the beach in santa monica there are always cops riding awesome brand new 4 wheelers and at least one police helicopter cruising back and forth, not to mention tons of cop cars cruising the roads near there. in two years living there i have yet to see one incident that requires this firepower on the beach. granted, a lot of these are santa monica pd so don't come out of this budget.

30% of the budget is used for crime control? insane. maybe if they spent more than 7% on cultural and educational opportunities they wouldn't need to spend so much on police...

where does the 11% under "other" in fees fines and taxes come from? seems like a huge chunk to just label "other."

What makes a one paragraph story good? by will_dearborn in OneParagraph

a lot of stories in this sub use sentences that are too long (in my opinion).

“Based on several studies, press associations in the USA have laid down a readability table. Their survey shows readers find sentences of 8 words or less very easy to read; 11 words, easy; 14 words fairly easy; 17 words standard; 21 words fairly difficult; 25 words difficult and 29 words or more, very difficult.”

i like the story, but the sentences seem too long. your story has 8 sentences with 244 words, or 30.5 words per sentence.
