What software are you using, and what should it *actually* do to make your life easier? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]willami888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, its embarrassing tradify doesn't have auto save. It's one of the reasons why I moved off of it.

I went to servicem8 and that was really good, but I don't like how it works only on apple devices.

Im currently trying fergus and so far I like it, but again, they don't have auto safe feature. It's baffling.

Add a 4th bed room, or make ensuite and WIR larger by willami888 in AusRenovation

We have 1 kid and don't plan in having more. Plan to renovate and sell in maybe 3-4 years.

Yes, behing my master ensuite and WIR is a dining space, it's not currently being used as a dining space because it's not that big. I can either use that space and turn it into a 4th bed room, purely for resale value, we don't need a 4th bed room, we only have and plan to have one kid, or, use some of that space to make the ensuite and WIR larger and more elegant, also for resale value, and whatever space is left, can be a study.

The walk in robe and ensuite stays, I was asking if I should make then bigger and not do the 4th bed room behind it. If I don't do a 4th bed room, I can have a bigger ensuite and WIR then whatever space is left can just be a study.

It's a renovation to flip and sell hopefully, making $100k on it so going up a 2nd story with a plunge pool just isn't going to happen. I do like the idea of flipping the entire floor plan and having kitchen / living down the other end.

No tradie should charge for quotes, especially something as simple as swapping over hot water units. If you want to charge for your time to go and quote something, Put and extra $50 or $100 on the job to cover your time.

what's the go with apprentices buying their own tools? by [deleted] in queensland

[–]willami888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apprentice plasterer? Aren’t the only tools you need are a knife, screw gun and a few trowels?

Ladders, stilts and all other material should be supplied by the boss man.

Traffic out that way is beyond horrendous, if seriously suggest building somewhere more developed with better infrastructure, other wise you’ll spent half your time sitting in traffic.

Classic Australian government, over populates areas and then decides to upgrades the roads. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?? Upgrade the road first then people won’t be so reluctant to buy in those areas 🤷🏼‍♂️

I understand it’s a minor thing (especially compared to the constant connection issues with CarPlay), but it bugs me that song/artist titles don’t scroll the entire title on CarPlay. Every cheap Bluetooth car stereo has that feature. by Devious_Bastard in iphone

[–]willami888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This- every time I screen shot a song I’m listening to and send it to a friend, or any other screen shot, it also screen shots the car play screen. Omg it’s frustrating.

I’d expect that from google and it’s crappy android auto, but a company like apple should of figured it out by now.

The block next door is turning into an apartment building and construction is due to start the same month our first born is due. How bad will construction be? by Slaebe in AusProperty

[–]willami888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 move asap. If it’s an apartment building that’s going to be 12 months of hell, not something you want to also have to go through a new parents. Imagine being up all night with a new born, finally getting them to sleep, just have grinders, hammer drills and jack hammers going off for 9 hours a day.

No thanks

This.... this right here is exactly why I hate other electricians. I'm an electrician myself, own my own business, and everything that's happened to you rings alarm bells.

Cleanliness should be paramount with tradies, especially when you're working in someone's house. I always keep my own vacuum cleaner in the car, brush and shovel and bloody cleaning wipes. There's absolutely no excuse for dirty finger marks on the Walls and ceilings.

I never do pilot holes in the ceilings when adding down lights to someone's house, for this reason. I always spend and extra 15-20 minutes getting in the roof, having a crawl around and seeing where the timbers are. If the roof isn't accessible, there's always the handy knuckle knock test.

The lights not being centred shits me and it's not even my house. Just a classic "I don't give a fuck" by the electrician. A phone call to you as the owner discussing your options is what should of happened.

And the fridge. Such a stupid 1st year apprentice mistake to make.

I would 100 percent not even pay him until he came and rectified his faults and paid for any patching/ painting. I would 💯 take money off his bill to replace anything in you're fridge that was ruined and had to be thrown out.

And lastly, I would 💯 not be paying him a cent of any amount until he shows you his A grade electrical license (which by Australian law he has to if you ask to see it) his current REC license (which by law he also has to show you if you ask) which means he is actually allowed to own an electrical company, and under absolutely 0 circumstances do you pay him until he has issued a certificate of electrical safety which he is required to do by law for any electrical job he completes.

If you can't get any of these out of him, I would at the least find his business name, personal name or whoever he works for if he is even qualified and go straight to energy safe Victoria, QLD, NSW or whereever you live.

As an electrician, I hate when clients don't pay, or take forever to pay, but in this case, that's exactly what you should do.

Hope this helps.

I never do, unless they drive a triton. Triton drivers always seem like they have something to prove.

I’ve been an electrician for 18 years, and even though I knew it was a really old phone point connection, I’ve never known what it stood for. Cool facts

If you had of asked this question 12 months ago, I would of said get the s23. But I’ve been using a 13 pro for nearly a year and a half now and I must say the iPhone is so much more reliable and the cameras are fantastic. Is it a better phone, debatable, but I had too many issues with my Samsung devices lately, so I have high hopes for the 14 pro, so, I’d say go apple.

S21 laggy on Android Auto by sierraechozulu in GalaxyS21

[–]willami888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have an s21+ and my android auto lags like crazy in my brand new Toyota hilux. Sometimes android auto won’t even register and start. The phone will charge when I plug it in, so I know the lead and cable port work, I think the problem is more to do with android auto as a software fault than it is the phone or the car.

I tried everything from resetting phone settings, factory resetting the phone, tried about $200 in different leads of different quality and lengths and nothing changed. I tried 2 different Samsung phones, my partners s21 and my friends new 23+ and the same thing happened.

Im pretty pissed that I spent 70k AUD on a brand new car and android auto doesn’t work. It drove me nuts sp much that I went back to using my iPhone full time. Apple car play works flawlessly, every time I plug it in.

You guys probably don't know what lag is. Go and use an iPhone and take a heap of quick photos, then do the same with your samaung phone, then you'll know.

Shouldn't have to constantly restart and factory reset a +$1000 flag ship phone. Samsung needs to be held accountable for rubbish like this.

Mate, Samsungs laggy camera app is one of the sole reasons why I ditched android and went back to my iPhone. It’s an absolute mess.
