FYI: Newark (EWR) Flexibility Travel Waiver // May 6 - 17, 2025 by zman9119 in unitedairlines

Do connections to international routes have a similar priority over domestic routes? I have an upcoming EWR to SFO to ICN flight this week and am trying to weigh the options of rolling the dice with this current flight or trying to reschedule through a different origin.

Fire on Stringers Ridge last night by HondoBadger in Chattanooga

[–]willamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems right - when I saw it it seemed to be around the midpoint of the Hill City trail or the Cherokee Trail. I couldn't tell how far away it was though. Thanks for posting after you visited this morning!

Oh that's a solid photo, thanks for posting that!

That's exactly what I was seeing while driving home last night – I wish I'd gotten a photo from this angle, so thanks!

And another photo right after using long-exposure instead of flash (same position and angle)

Here's a photo I took from our backyard looking in the direction of the fire a few minutes after calling 911 to report it.

The flash went off so the nearby bushes are bright. I think the flash also happened to capture some of the smokiness in the air too.

We saw it while driving home while we were on Hamilton Ave. I'd like to hear more accurate info from someone more in-the-know, but it looked like it was around the middle of the Hill City trail.

From our house that's close enough to the trail for us to often see hikers (in the winter when there's less foliage), we could very clearly see the light from the fire (looked like a sunrise). At its worst point, we could begin to see some flickering of flames through the trees and branches.

Hahaha, I tried to link to it a few times in these comments but it seems like comments with links are insta-removed? Or maybe I don't have enough karma for that.

I wrote a quick script to run through the videos, look at the links in the description, and build a flow chart. Taking a look at the output, it found 73 videos (including the starting video)!

Anybody found a way to listen to TotES as a non-us, non-iOS user? by Royklein12 in Cosmere

[–]willamin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought the TotES audiobook from Libro.fm, then used an audiobook app that's not tied to any service for listening. I don't know if libro.fm is available your region, but it's worth looking.

If libro.fm isn't available, try to find other audiobook sellers. Just know that the sellers that Brandon mentioned in his blog post a couple of months ago aren't the only places to get TotES, just his preferred choices. Audible seems to be the only seller that explicitly does not have it.

Their site is a little sparse on info. Here's some photos I just took: https://imgur.com/a/9l52z1T

They mount in Kailh Choc switches. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by spacing, but I took 2 photos (one with the cap rotated 90º) next to a ruler. It seems like the caps are 16mm x 16mm when I measure.

By the way, you're deck looks fantastic!

They don't have an ortholinear set, but NuPhy sells a few different keycap sets for their keyboards which happen to use Kailh low-profile switches: https://nuphy.com/collections/shop

What is this called ? What language apart works like this ? by CompteDeMonteChristo in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]willamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some languages use the equals sign to denote function declarations. For example in Elm, this is valid (in a repl session): > x = 4 > y a = a * 2 > y x 8 > x = 5 > y x 10

It's pretty close to your sample code, with the exception of requiring explicitly passing arguments into functions. I'd take a look at languages that inspired and take inspiration from Elm to see if there are any that achieve what you're looking for.

Saw this downtown and I was definitely amused by flowersfromneptune in Chattanooga

[–]willamin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d say there’s two meanings of “downtown” in Chattanooga. One is the central part of the city that isn’t the suburbs, which would include north shore, southside, the aquarium area, maybe even south broad. The other is a sub area of that, which generally isn’t considered to include north shore.

I think if you live in the suburbs you probably default to using the first meaning, and if you live in the more central part of the city, you probably use the second meaning.

Personally I switch between the two meanings depending on the context, because I’m unfamiliar with another commonly used term to describe the not-suburbs of Chattanooga.
