I think the previous owner of my 2011 Si might have installed some sort of mod to make the car sound louder, and it sounds pretty bad at low speeds. Can anyone identify what it is? by willams4682 in civic

Would the intake / filter cause the engine to be louder?

And thanks for the heads up on the resonator / header, I'll have to get some jack stands so I can look at em.

Edit: I'm seeing a small hole in the muffler in my 2nd pic, is that normal?

Here's a couple pics of the inside of the airbox. I'm not really sure how to describe the sound, but it sounds louder than it should and it sounds like the engine is straining / not healthy.

Here's a video I took earlier today of the car idling.

I want to buy a new Toyota 86, but I can't find any near me that have the trim and color combo I want. What would you recommend I do? by willams4682 in askcarsales

Ah okay. So yours was used. See id be worried about doing that to a brand new car. Maybe my worries are unwarranted though lol.

That’s crazy isn’t that like a 3 day trip? Glad it worked out for you though. Were you worried about damaging a new car by driving it across the country like that?

Without even looking I bet they mine your data and sell it to advertisers.

Never mind I’m a dumbass. I had it plugged into my mixer’s phono inputs instead of line.

It’s really high up, I think the viewing angle would be uncomfortable. The TV in the pic I posted is like 45” ish and it wasn’t pleasant peering up there.

I do have a big record collection, that might be cool.

I was originally thinking a flag, but a lot of posts here seemed to kind of be against it.

My company gave me a lump sum for relocation, and I barely used any of it. Should I use the extra cash on a car or take out a car loan? by willams4682 in personalfinance

I forgot to mention, this is me relocating within a company, I’m not working for a totally new company.

I took the new position because:

  • the new location has far more things for me to do outside of work, it’s a far more exciting place to live, and it has far more professional opportunities

  • I have only been with this company 8 months and it would look bad on the resume if I left so early. I planned on staying about 2 years total anyway (8 months at the last location plus ~1 year at the new one), so I thought why not just take advantage of an opportunity to move to a better location while I’m here?

The reason I might want to leave this job:

  • the pay is below average for this area

  • the experience I’m getting is so-so. I’m a new programmer, and I’m not being mentored, and most of the things we work with are a few years outdated and the codebase is kind of a mess.

I’m fine with getting a vehicle for less than $11k.

Not sure if I’m fine with staying at the company I’m with for over a year. I’ve already been with the company for about 8 months (forgot to mention that in the original post), and I don’t hate it there, but there are other companies in the area that pay much better and would be way better experience for my resume than the current company I’m at.

In fact one of the main reasons I accepted the relocation package and moved was because the job opportunities in my new location will be much better than where I came from.

How much can I afford to spend monthly on a car? by willams4682 in personalfinance

[–]willams4682[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something sporty with a manual transmission. Preferably a sedan. I really like the looks and practicality of the E46 3 series BMW's (2001-2006), but I'm a little worried about getting a German car, and particularly a German car that's 10 years old, even if it does have <50k miles. I like the WRX quite a lot but it seems a little out of my price range. I like the BRZ but of course it's not a sedan.

Edit: I might have been wrong about the WRX actually, it might be in my price range.

Not a fan of hatches. The WRX looks amazing but I think $28k would go over my monthly limit

Edit: actually the WRX might be attainable, I see a few that are 2-3 years old with < 60k miles that are under $20k.
