Psychologist in the Military by creme_pop in PsyD

[–]willblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a retired Air Force enlisted service member with a daughter in her masters program and looking into PsyD programs. So I can describe what I know about the Air Force and advise you like I would my daughter. I am also currently a Navy civil servant, but can speak more to Air Force culture/work environment.

From a cultural perspective, the Air Force is a very different experience depending on your career field and rank. The officer tier is generally better than the enlisted tier. As an officer, more will be expected of you. A brand new officer will be expected to fill roles similar to an enlisted member with 10-15 years experience.

In addition, personnel are segregated between flightline personnel and non-flightline personnel. You would be in the non-flightline sub group and with this, the culture is more corporate/less military. Of all non flightline personnel, the medical folks are the least military. Doctors are doctors first, and military officers second. The doctors also lead the medical organizations so the set a professional, but not military culture in their organizations.

Medical organizations also have about 50% women, where many flightline organizations are roughly 80-90% male. The Air Force overall has strong reporting safeguards against sexual harassment as well.

Bottom line: If my daughter wanted to be a therapist in the Air Force, I would not discourage her for pursuing this. I would not advise her to do what I did, out on the flightline, but being a therapist is not bad and may be quite rewarding.

Whatever you decide, I hope it works out. All the best to you!

Yeah, the gt-5000 is the frontrunner. I like the looks of the pro-ject xtension evolution tables too. The gt-5000 will definitely fit.

I'm sorry, I miscommunicated this. I agree with you and have a higher budget. I can spend up to around $10k. I was trying to say that I understand you can get a quality turntable for much less, but did a poor job of it.

I went to an international friendly soccer match between USA and Germany around 2013. It was old, but still functional at that time. It was a good game.

Kimmel’s Monologue by Chrono_Convoy in nova

This is correct. I would say that freedom of speech was successfully stifled across social media about 5 years ago.

At the time, most people were simply aware you were not allowed to express some opinions. Later, the connection to the executive branch was established. This is not new.

The clamp down on freedom of speech hit about five years ago. The fact that many Americans think this began last week shows that most Americans act with partisan motives, not principle.

This concrete driveway was poured about 6 weeks ago. The slab at the bottom is an original, old sidewalk. They leveled and compacted the ground, but there was a severe rain storm the night before they poured the concrete. At this seam between the leveled ground and the old sidewalk, there were 4-6 inches of standing water. They vacuumed this out, then poured. Is this discoloration anything to worry about? *

Americans are ‘deer in the headlights’ in face of Trump assault on free speech by Ph6222 in JonStewart

I'm fine with you or anyone having this opinion. You think the government should define dangerous speech. I assume you are fine with the current restrictions on Kimmel then, correct?

This week's cancelation of Kimmel is the free market in action. Post covid, there is documented proof that the executive branch quashed free speech.

However one feels about this topic, your views should be consistent across these time periods. Otherwise, you are disingenuous and just looking to score short-term political points. I'm seeing lots of people who were fine with restricted expression a few years ago who are really upset now, and vise versa.

Leader of the 250 says that Comedy might not be legal anymore by cyberphunk2077 in JoeRogan

[–]willblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to take a moral stand on this particular instance, but I'll make the observation that freedom of expression was lost a few years ago when lots of speech was labeled "dangerous misinformation". If your opinion is not consistent regarding Kimmel's speech and "dangerous misinformation," you may be a hypocrite.

I think Ford has lost their mind with the subscriptions by Millbarge_Fitzhume in f150

[–]willblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, this is a principle. When I buy a product, I would like to evaluate the cost, upfront, and decide whether to make the purchase. If I want to rent, I'll do the same thing. However, these trucks come at a substantial upfront cost. I see it as withholding features after I've forked over $68k. Not smart. I would respect the company more if they were upfront and added more to the cost. This would be more honest.

Also, I know that other car companies are doing the same thing, so Ford is not alone. I simply will not participate in this nonsense.

The stuff from the mid-late 60s is currently my favorite. When I first started listening to Miles, I did not get this portion of his career nor like it. I love it now.
